Said my third grade classmate, Joel -
“If you lick that ice, your tongue will get froze
...at least that’s what I was told!”

“Frost on the pole? Nah!
Your tongue will not freeze that way.”
I was not prepared when “Triple Dog Dare!”
Got thrown down on that day

And that’s when Ben and Patrick
And the whole class gathered ‘round.
I stuck my tongue out of my head
And I couldn’t move around!

Frost on the pole, man!
Eyes were wide, could not believe
And the kids that stayed
They all look dismayed
A stunned silence around me

Wish the sun was out that day
Couldn’t feel my tongue
When the school bell rung
The whole class had ran away

“Is a student missing?”
Little Susie raised her hand
Softly said “Out there…”, the teacher got scared
Called a cop and ambulance

Then I’m surrounded all around
By EMTs and cops
They got close and grabbed a camera and
They took a couple shots!

“Mister policeman…”
Tried with all my might to say…
“Please get me unstuck.”
“But we’re late for lunch…
We’ll come back later today.”
