Parody Song Title:

"Shut Down the Server"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Once a poor sysadmin, sitting in his server room
Wringing his hands over MS Exchange
And he swore as he saw red icons in the error log
I'll have to shut down the server again

Shut down the server, shut down the server
I'll have to shut down the server again
And he swore as he saw red icons in the error log
I'll have to shut down the server again

When he hit the power switch to restart his server box
The hard disk it squealed like a banshee in pain
And he sighed as he wished his hard drives were hot-swappable
I'll have to shut down the server again

Shut down the server, shut down the server
I'll have to shut down the server again
And he sighed as he wished his hard drives were hot-swappable
I'll have to shut down the server again

So off came the cover, out came the dead hard disk
In went the new one that looked just the same
And he thought "If I've put the wrong one in the drive bay
I'll have to shut down the server again"

Shut down the server, shut down the server
I'll have to shut down the server again
And he thought "If I've put the wrong one in the drive bay
I'll have to shut down the server again"

But the poor sysadmin's thumb caught in the power switch
All that they found were his black, charred remains
Now his ghost gets the blame for all their network down time
I'll have to shut down the server again

Shut down the server, shut down the server
I'll have to shut down the server again
Now his ghost gets the blame for all their network down time
I'll have to shut down the server again

Excellent! Been there and done that except for the dying part, but I have been zapped myself on occassion. And boy don't management hate it when those exchange boxes go down! Great work for a great 5. Thanks Phil.

;-) I have been zapped by a cracked power switch before now... unfortunately, I was on a customer site and it was reported to their compliance office: a few hours, two reports (in triplicate) and a revised method statement later, we managed to get back on with the job at hand :-(

:-) Thanks, JD (and Fuss, Pat, Birgitta and wcetc.)... I was wondering whether to re-do this one having found out what a "Bogan" is...(see http://www.inthe00s.com/index.php/topic,18958.msg876515.html#msg876515 for more details - what do you reckon?)
