Parody Song Title:

"D.B. Cooper"

Parody Written by:

Robert D. Arndt Jr.

The Lyrics

If you lived in the '70s D.B. Cooper was a cult legend instead on an air pirate. His mid-flight jump from a 727 at night with $200,000 ransom money into the wilderness of Washington state has been an enduring mystery and the only unsolved air piracy event in US aviation history. To many, D.B. Cooper is a hero. The FBI gave up on him in 2016. All they ever found was a few bundles of bills near a river and the airstairs placard with instructions. $180,000 ransom money is still missing and has never appeared anywhere. No one knows if D.B. Cooper survived or not. Nobody ever discovered his true identity either...
Boarded a 727 in Portland, you see
Going to Seattle one-way 'twas quite easy
Gave a flight attendant a note she was forced to read
He had a bomb, so he made a ransom plea!

D. B., D. B. Cooper,
Air pirate the crew did fear

Requested $200K and parachutes- 4
Released the hostages, gave instructions no one could ignore
Instructions for the airstairs to the rear explored
Took off again and jumped mid-flight as F-106s roared*

Nothing like this had ever happened before!

D.B., D.B. Cooper
Polite man, showed no fear!

FBI put out a description that fit quite well
Meanwhile trying to trace every single $20 bill
Searches in Washington didn't go so well
No trace of the money or D.B.'s body to tell

Made the authorities mad as hell!

D.B., D.B. Cooper
Searches went on for years!

In 1980, some cash was found- a sum
$20K waterlogged and the airstairs instructions
All of this caused quite a commotion
And the FBI suspected he might be Canadian!**

D.B., D.B. Cooper
Military man? Pilot? Engineer?

In 2016, the FBI gave up the hunt, so long, so dear!

[Speculation abounds, but no solid evidence of anything ever has appeared]
* two F-106s shadowed the flight but missed his jump in the dark of night with D.B. wearing all-black
** Dan Cooper was a Canadian comic book character belonging to the RCAF who also parachuted. When D.B. asked for the ransom money he specified "negotiable America currency" as if being a foreigner

Saw one of those unsolved mystery shows which speculated Cooper may have been a woman in disguise. Finding the large bundle of bills indicated "Cooper' was most likely killed in the jump and the body still hasn't been found. Used to have a 45 rpm record "D. B. Cooper, Where Did You Go?"
