I remember my paternal grandfather always complaining about French hygiene from when he was a GI. When he came into France, he was appalled that most homes had no running water nor toilets. You went in backyard gardens. You cleaned yourself with a bucket of cold water and a brush. Like people in India, most of the French covered their foul body odor with strong perfumes and colognes. Today, roughly 54% of the French don't shower everyday. Most don't wash their hands after using the restroom. However, 88% wash their hands in food preparation!!! And there are still French that bathe only once a week!
