The Lyrics
This was written in honor of Christmas in July; it's about a guy driving on U.S. Route 1 from Philadelphia to Baltimore. NOTE: Conowingo is a town in Maryland, at the junction of Routes 1 and 222, while I-83 ("I-Eighty-Three") is an interstate highway connecting Baltimore with Harrisburg, PA. Also, "D.O.T." stands for "Department of Transportation".
There are turnpikes in Pennsylvania and New Jersey
I-95 clearly shows you no mercy
But do you recall
The most infamous highway of all
Route 1, the East Coast Highway
Runs from Florida north to Maine
And if you tried to drive it
People would think you're insane
Through fourteen states and D.C.
The highway goes by several names (like Boston Post Road)
And when the road is backed up (backed up)
You know exactly who to blame (blame the D.O.T.!)
I was driving to Baltimore
Down Conowingo way
The trooper said, "Joe, you did 59"
"Now you'll have to pay the fine"
I've really learned my lesson

A couple of gripes. One, don't you have anything else to write about besides cars? Two, stop being lazy and separate the verses and chorus lines. Smooshing them together into a blur of words is not fitting on this site.

I know all about Route 1. In fact, I live just a mile from an intersection I like to call Patriot Circle: Routes 18 and 1! If you think 1 is bad in Maryland, it is considerably worse in Jersey.
