Thanks Jon, was trying to work the Fw-200 Condor into the mix, but not enough room. It would have broken the continuity anyway...
I could picture a crew of a surfaced U-Boat singing this.
Most of the WW2 U-boats did run on the surface until the Dutch Snorkel was confiscated and improved by the Germans. By 1943 it was damn dangerous to be spotted on the surface. Air attacks and destroyer depth charges made singing of the "Golden Times" a thing of the past. The Type XXI gave the Germans back the edge, but it was too late by 1945... 70 percent sang "Down, Down, Down, We Go!"
