Reminder of the hideous Russian winters that helped in part to halt the German advance. The horror of fighting in weather like that is almost unimaginable, yet millions did, and millions died.

More Germans were killed by the bad weather than by the Reds. The avg winter temp was -50o below zero. Fires had to be lit under AFVs to keep the engines from freezing up and aircraft had heaters for the same. German winter-issue clothing was largely due to civiluan donations back home. And it didn't help that the USSR spanned 9000 miles across!!! No matter how far the Germans got in good time, there were too many prisoners to process and endless terrain in the worst environment imaginable with the Soviets on their own territory and used to the weather. Frozen lakes meant supplies came to them all the time while the German supply line was far too thin or had to be air-lifted in.
