The Lyrics

Glen Campbell, age 75, recently announced that he suffers from early stages of Alzheimer's, and will make a final tour this fall. LCC suggested I do a parody for him..
Oh Glenny Boy, the pipes, the pipes..grow weary
For fifty years..those golden hits, you made
Now word comes down, and many fans will be teary
Dementia..could make..your mem'ry fade

Our thoughts return to tunes like "Rhinestone Cowboy"
To "Galveston"..and "Gentle On My Mind"
You gave us tears, nostalgia, and deep heart joy
Now, Glenny Boy, oh Glenny Boy, sorrow we find

Your final tour, they say, will come this autumn
A season, sad..more sad shall surely be
Young country stars, one day will shine, you taught 'em
With vocals, smooth..string picks, master-ful-ly

But we'll still hear the hits that you've recorded
On videos and movies that we see
Shows for all time and songs, so greatly worded
If you forget, the world will keep your memory

Should you forget, the world still holds your memory

I maintain that having a song about you by AFW is a higher honor than an Oscar, a Tony, a Pulitzer, or even a Nobel. A thrice worthy parody for a thrice worthy performer. ;D

Glen Campbell was part of two instrumental versions of "Eve of Destruction" once by Billy Strange, and once as "Mr. Twelve String Guitar'". You ought to hear him play "Havah Nagilah". Sad to hear the news.

Sorry for the late reply, but didn't think any would post on the holiday--- Now, to your parody: Wonderful tribute to a great talent---I fondly remember watching The Glen Campbell Hour as a kid and will similarly fondly look back on your thoughtful tunesmithing here.

Thank you Sir L'Air de Farce, our Mighty Duke o'Edge, for writing such a good tribute to a great American singer, Guitarist & entertainer par excellence! I still love the songs ~By the Time I Get to Phoenix~ & ~Wichita LineMan ~ . . . those two songs really illustrate the wide open space of Americana. I wish him all the success on his ~ Final Tour de Grace ~!

Yes, and thanks to you, LC..."Phoenix" is probably, my favorite, by him..It has such deep emotion...and thanks to Jimmy Webb, who wrote the two you mention, and Galveston, I believe
