The Lyrics

Here's something a bit unusual for me. I break with my frequently conservative background to attempt a song from a different point of view. This is something that might be heard from the voters who are angry with both sides, their rhetoric, and all incumbents. Somebody once said it...if you offend all sides, then you might be doing something right! ;D

In forty-two days - the world we will amaze.
We will once again make our selections.
We'll go to the polls - and then we'll express our goals
As we're voting in the midterm elections.

Oh there is no high road - they all use the low road
As all rip each other with slander.
It's hateful and mean - and nobody comes out clean
As to all our darkest fears they will pander.

It seems such a crime - for this year is a time
That they all should be sticking to issues.
We need answers strong - not the same old dance and song
And the phony tears they wipe with their tissues.

Oh you keep the left wing - and you keep the right wing.
We're fearing there isn't a middle.
But it would be great - if they just would legislate
And dispense with all the fiddle and diddle.

Real folks are involved - and they want problems solved.
They are massing for voting deployment.
While up in D.C. - they're ignoring you and me,
Bragging that they'll never face unemployment.

With mad voters out there - there isn't a safe chair.
The "babe" might get pitched "with the water".
We've had enough chants - and the commentator's rants,
So we say just do the job that you "oughter"!

Hopefully right down the middle! ;D

Outstanding! I imagine this is what most voters are thinking. Great image of pitching the "babe with the water". I would gladly see them all gone, the good with the bad, for the chance to start over with a clean slate of legislators who haven't gotten all their "connections" set up yet. What we need is a system whereby the voters can recall these fools if they don't live up to their promises. I'm watching the ads here in Kansas and Missouri, and even during the primaries, basically conservative candidates were ripping into one another, all but accusing each other of sleeping with Nancy Pelosi in the Lincoln Bedroom. A Missouri candidate for the Senate (long time incumbent) is (correctly) accused by his opponent of running against Obama, and "Washington" rather than her. It's ugly, and no one with any sense, or options, would vote for either candidate. A great song.

Honestly. . .I don't even see a point, the seats I see in this area is represented by people who all say the same rhetoric, and to my knowledge, that's pretty much the entire country. . .politics has become sad. . .

An excellent non partisan slice of truth, OMR... and of course, political flim-flammery is not restricted to your side of the pond. However once noble the intentions of any representative may have been, once in power it's ALWAYS the same old same old. Wouldn't it be nice to have our leaders (present and potential) actually make decisions based on what's best for the PEOPLE? I'll keep dreaming....555

I think that you meant "commentators' " in stanza 6; otherwise a prize worth fives. The problem with "throwing out the bums" is that their unemployment (stanza 5) is a generous pension and medical care for life, along with a new job as lobbyist or advisor or professor.

"who knows WHAT will play in six weeks" !!! This is my chronic inability to proofread anything I write. ;D
