The Lyrics

July 20, 2009 marked the forty year anniversary of man's first moon landing in Apollo 11.
This old moon in the skies,
Target of our lunar flies
It's a great host planet,
Solid as our own..
To this old moon
Great men have flown..

This old moon it's been walked
By Neil Armstrong, and he talked
Sayin' "One small step for man"
Followed by the line,
" A giant leap for all mankind"

This old moon it's been had
Craters no more virgin clad,
In a hop drop, Apollo stop
Nineteen sixty nine..
Buzz Aldrin helped make it shine

This old moon out in space,
Astronauts pock marked it's face
With their space ships, rocket trips,
Lasting many years,
This old moon we gave big ears

This old moon it had shows
Got rocks off in videos,
Rolled a rover over,
Sent 'em back to earth
This old moon has had rebirth

This old moon it's been shot
Six times on it's surface, got
With 11, 12, 14, 15
Sixteen, seventeen, too..were keen

This old moon photos snapped,
Samples of it's surface tapped,
With a robot, gobot
Scoopin' up some dirt..
Looks like one great big des-ert

This old moon flies our flag
Put there on a pole to brag
Staked, our aim, we can claim
Lunar for ourselves,
This old moon might spawn some elves

This old moon ain't cheese, I thunk
Just dust and rocks, lotta' NASA junk
Been Apollo'd solid,
Several times explored
This old it, men soared

This old moon shines away
In the night and sometimes day,
It's been forty years now,
Since Apollo lit..
Let's moon this moon
To honor it..

Moon this old moon
To honor it..

The moonwalk footage is still as amazing today as it was 40 yrs ago. Saddening, though, to think that we've all but abandoned the space exploration program today. It'll never happen again. :(

Nice recap - I liked them hitting golf balls best. I would hope we wouldn't see much more space stuff until we get the debt in control.

Kirk - Is that an old 21st century Gamma Ray Gun there?

Checkov - Lets see keptun - vun squeeze uf da trigger vill tell if it still verks..
Man in the Moon - Hey point that thing the other way you dumb Rooskie.
McCoy - He's dead Jim!
Kirk - My God! - He shot his eye out!

I can remember when Sputnik was put into orbit and I remember Kennedy saying that we should put a man on the moon before the end of the decade. And I remember watching in astonishment the video sent back to earth and shown on the old black and white TV - but who needed color on the moon anyway? I realy like this fine tribute to one of the few events I can remember as clearly as if they were yesterday. I can tell you that I was in 6TH period History class in 7TH grade on Nov 22, 1963 - I can tell you that I was in my family living room watcing man on the moon in the mid afternoon on July 20, 1969 and I was at work manning the base communication center on a military base at 10:00AM CDT Sep 11, 2001. Thanks for the memories. Fine work.

"One small step for man...3 giant heaps of all 5's!" In the words of Jim Carrey from "Dumb and Dumber": "We've landed on the moon!" Dug your spoof on one of my fave childhood songs! It's out of this world!
