"A Comment on Intelligent Design"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

I sometimes despair at the popular lack of understanding about what science (note the lack of capital "s") is: science is not a person, nor a theory, not even a set of theories; science is a way to treat information, a way of coming up with useful explanations of what we see around us. Scientific method is one of the most powerful tools we as humans have invented for increasing our understanding.

I find it hard to comprehend how anybody with any conception of what science is can spend more than a few minutes before dismissing the farrago that is Intelligent Design: it is utterly devoid of any supporting evidence whatsoever. The argument goes "this looks like it was designed, ergo it was". And yet some ignorant idiots want this taught *in science class*. Which just goes to show, I guess, that these people have no basic conception of what science is. Anyway, sorry about the rant, on with the song...
There isn't any science in Intelligent Design
The opposite of what proponents seem to be implyin'
And if you say there is, you're either stupid or you're lyin'
It's all a load of bull

Irr'duceable complexity is often mooted, too
But only by non-scientists who know not what they do
Two words, and nine syllables, so hey, it *must* be true
It's all a load of bull

Please, just get some education
Proof, and not imagination
There ain't no proof for creation
It's all a load of bull

The scientific case for ID isn't very strong
They don't care what is right, they just say evolution's wrong
Which is their main objective, and it has been all along
It's all a load of bull

ID'ers point at "missing links", no matter how small
And reckon it's a hole which evolution's gonna fall
But with Intelligent Design, there's nothing there at all
It's just a load of bull

ID isn't a solution
Tries to disprove evolution
Just by pointing out confusion
It's all a load of bull

The central point of science is you have to change your mind
If contradictory evidence is something which you find
You don't just pick and choose and be selective-ly blind
Or what you'll have is bull

There are some diehard crackpots want it in the science class
Would they force their students to believe in it to pass?
It's time these blinkered idiots stopped talking out their ****
It's all a load of bull

ID isn't scientific
Its predictions aren't specific
To say it's science is horrific
It's all a load of bull

I've said it before (or words to that effect, with my parody "Intelligent Design" -- sorry, my computer won't let me post the link), and I'll say it again: Bush himself is a pretty strong argument AGAINST "intelligent design."

This parody was quite intelligently designed.

All you gotta know about ID is that whack job George Gilder is a proponent. Great work Phil. Extra credit for "farrago." I challenge you to do a parody with that word either in the title or body.

:-D Thanks everyone...
Michael - I'll check it out, though have to admit I DKTOS
alvin - you could write that as a Fleetwood Mac parod
JB - you're on ;-) (who's George Gilder?)

Crazy8snake: I'm not sure hydrogen pentaiodide would be a very stable compound ;-)

Hmmm. Wonder who organised the 1-1-1 votes. Suspiciously high number of 'em, and not a single 'intelligent' comment to support them. Top class. 4-5-5 (a bit of syllabic contortion required in places)

Steve, I think some people think we care if they one our songs a lot. . .they just clear out their cookies and vote over and over again because they have nothing better to do. . .it's really sad honestly, it's beyond suspicious, it's rediculous, and Phil is one of the best writers on the site. . .we all know that no matter how many people 1 him.
Phil Alexander - May 12, 2007 - Report this comment
Thanks, Steve - Dave's right, and if anything I now take a load of 1s as a sign that I've struck a chord: if somebody goes out of his way to clear cookies and re-vote a dozen times, then I reckon they know I'm right but don't want to admit it to themselves...
PS And thanks for the kind words, Dave :-)
