The Lyrics

Members of the U.S. House of Representatives who are conservatives and yet officially call themselves members of the Democratic Party are known as "Blue Dog Democrats." This is a pun on "Yellow Dog Democrats," a term from Texas: A man is so loyal to the Democratic Party, he'd vote for a yellow dog if he ran on the party line. Pete Geren, a Texas Democrat so conservative George W. Bush appointed him Secretary of the Army (probably to get him in a nearly-useless position and to get a Republican to win his seat in the ensuing special election), came up with the name "Blue Dogs" because conservative Democrats had been "choked blue by the liberals." Although a lot of Blue Dogs are Southerners, they are not necessarily to be confused with old-time segregationists, "Dixiecrats" or "Boll Weevil Democrats." There were 54 Blue Dogs going into this Tuesday's election. There are now 26, as 28 of them either retired or were defeated. Or, to put it another way, of the 51 incumbent Democrats who lost on Tuesday, 18 were Blue Dogs. (Note that there remain races whose results are unconfirmed as of November 5, 2010, so the above numbers could change.) Moral of the story? Americans don't want conservatism, they want Democrats to act like Democrats and fix the economy and pass a MORE radical health care reform than the one these cowards -- not the President -- shoved down our throats!
(instrumental opening)

Johnny comes from Texas.
(He's a Blue.)
His policies, they'll wreck us.
(Make us blue.)
And when he raises money
(He's a Dog.)
his speeches ain't so funny.
(What a dog.)
Johnny is a Democrat
but acts like a Repub!
(He's a Blue Dog!)

Up in South Dakota
(She's a Blue.)
the prairie people vote-a
(Thought she's true.)
for Stephanie Herseth now.
(She's a Dog.)
Her record is all wet now.
(What a dog.)
Stephanie's a gun nut
and she's voting against health care!
(She's a Blue Dog!)

Hey, Blue Dog, you act just like Dan Quayle!
Hey, Blue Dog, you're on the wrong trail!
Blue Dog, you better leave my
reform bills alone!

Hey, Blue Dog, no procedural trick!
Hey, Blue Dog, you better get away quick!
Blue Dog, you're really quite the chicken!
Now you're on your own!

Chris of Pennsylvania.
(He's a Blue.)
Carney, he won't sustain ya.
(He's a Blue.)
Well, he's out of a job now.
(He's a Dog.)
He's such a silly slob now.
(What a dog.)
He might as well switch parties
but the GOP won't take him!
(He's a Blue Dog!)

(He's a Blue... )
(Very blue... )

(instrumental fadeout)
I mean, seriously, as long as these guys were around, the Democrats didn't really have the majority in the House. For the record, Stephanie Herseth Sandlin ("D" - South Dakota) is reasonably attractive. In this case, she's not a "dog," just a "Blue Dog." But she is a gun nut, and by voting against health care reform, she shot herself in the foot. Oh, the metaphorical irony.

Southern Democrats tried to stay on the right side (or "right" side, if you prefer) of the gun issue. All the stories I hear about health care in Canada and Great Britain, two countries similar to ours in language, culture, and population mix, are that government run hospitals are abysmal hell holes, care is rationed, the elderly are denied treatment because they are no longer worth spending scarce resources to save. Canada's system only works because Canadians can cross the US border and get immediate treatment in relatively small cities that isn't available even in large metropolitan areas there. When the feds take over medicine here, what will we have to fall back on, Laetrile clinics and goat gland transplants in Mexico? How is socialized medicine going to work here, when it hasn't worked in other English-speaking semi-democracies? Why not seek out successful entrepreneurs such as Bill Gates and those who have provided computers and complex electronic communications at ever decreasing prices to vast numbers of people and incentivize them to apply their talents and organizational skills to devising ways to provide health care.

Michael - Conservative as I am, I mourn the passing of the Blue Dogs...and the moderate Republicans as well. As for your opening commentary, Alan Grayson agrees with you. But this is neither here nor there to me when reading or scoring your parody. Perhaps I belong on a bench somewhere...my gym teacher certainly thought so...lol! ;D

Sums it up quite well. May not agree with all your politics, but like your parody style.

Great humor, MP. Republicans gained 60 seats in the House of Representatives and exit polls confirm that voters were extremely dissatisfied with the left wing Obama agenda. So you spoof those who blame their losses on the Blue Dog Democrats. Very creative parody!
