The Lyrics

I don't know who wrote this, and there was only one verse, so I added a couple. I heard it on the old "Shari Lewis Show". She was an underrated genius, and died too young. She was also very musical. I saw her perform once, and was blown away.
This is the song that never starts
It's always sung by us old farts
Some geezer tried to sing it
And then blanked on how it went
They booed him off the stage
And told the poor guy to get bent

This is the song that never starts
Because it has too many parts
Sometimes you get the chorus
But forget the second verse
You la-la through the middle
But it makes the problem worse

This is the song that never starts
It never should have made the charts
They should have put the lid on it
The day that it made the map
For now you hear it always
Like that Zeppelin "Stairway" crap

(Back to the beginning over and over--- or don't start at all!)

I remember the original only vaguely, but just enough that I can vote on this - you got fives, mate.

LOL!! I love it! Even my middle-aged, antiquated methane emission heart gets a tug thinking about Shari Lewis. When I was just a wee little lad (wait that's a different song - lol) Shari was my idol. I am old enough now to admit without embarrassment (thanks to the anonymity of the web!) that I toted around a "Lamb Chop" stuffed toy when I was a widdle kid! As I once said on Yesterdayland (R.I.P.) Shari should be right at home up there with the angels, singing the song that never ends! In the meantime, we get to hear the one that doesn't start! This parody is just funny as all git out!!! (Though I do, as a product of the seventies, take some offense at the irreverent treatment of our generational anthem - lol!) 555!

Great job Rick; can't believe someone parodied this. I almost did one that went: "Look out this song abruptly ends, and it--" but it never woulda made the ten line minimum. Anyway, well done and thanks for including me in that tribute. It's really cool to hear stuff I wrote being sung, and you guys did a great job so thanks again.

One of the few things Shari Lewis complained about was that she'd meet a nice handsome attractive man somewhere and introduce herself. The guy would recognize her and say "Oh, You're great! I used to watch you on television when I was a little kid! Takes all the juice out of a good pick-up line. Of course, that sort of thing doesn't bother famous MEN, now does it?

Haha... yeah, I remember this song from elementary school - it was one of the most popular ways to annoy someone :-). I could have sworn it came from some kid show, but I guess they must have just stolen it or something. Anyway, very nice job.
