Song Parodies -> "Here’s the Last Spell I’ll Do"

Original Song Title:

"I Put a Spell on You"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Screamin' Jay Hawkins

Parody Song Title:

"Here’s the Last Spell I’ll Do"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

Here’s the Last ‘Spell’ I’ll do--
it’s a fun time
I’ve had writing ’em, but I’m through,
I ain’t lyin’,
this time—not lyin’.

So thanks for withstandin'
endless seeming rounds.
Now I will abandon
efforts that brought some parodists down.

So it’s “farewell,” “adieu,”
and for all time. . .
this rhyme.

Quite a slew
did I do,
but it’s through.
So adieu—
out I bow.
I’m outta here. . .
the last parody
of Jay, I vow.

(Cue cheering)

What further “Spell”s ensue
will not be mine.

Had to weigh in on this Historic event...so, you're ridin' off into the sunset, like Hostess...how does it feel to do half a thou- on one song? Don't think I'd be able to sustain the motivation...congrats,, and Happy TG

So I won't need to see you in court, SJL. And thanks, AFW. Congrats to Rob.

Congrats on them all, John B. It will be odd to visit these pages and not see your name next to Screamin' Jay's. Will you be fixating on another song to parody?

Congrats to JAB and Rob!

Used all the words that rhymed with "spell"
Like chanterelle and Tinkerbell
And Hell and bell and knell
And kvell and snell and skell
There's no more words left in the well

Used words that sorta rhymed with "spell"
Like welch and belch and kelp and whelp
And health and stealth and wealth
And svelte and smelt and gelt
Those helped with all the rhymes to "spell"

So many tackled, so compelling
Mocked every line of Screamin' Jay
The chore of tracking all those "Spell-ings"
Would put a strain upon a Cray

Some title endings rhymed with "you"
Like moo and doo and poo and goo
And crew and brew and stew
And shoe and glue and ewe
There's no more words of rhyme to "you"

Some endings sorta rhymed with "you"
Like mousse and juice and booze and schmooze
And drool and cool and rule
And tune and loon and goon
Those helped with all the rhymes to "you"

I once tried my hand at "Spell-ing"
'Twas not as easy as it seemed
The windows rattled from my yelling
'Cause spoofing Hawkins made me scream

Used names containing rhymes with "ell"
Like William Tell, Michelle, Nobel
And Stella, Welk and Pell
And Spellman and Ravel
Those helped with all the rhymes to "spell"

They say the spelling bee is through
A spelling spree that grew and grew
And so we bid adieu
And say "Merci beaucoup!"
For all the "Spells" we got to view

'Twas a run to remember, John! One for the annals to be sure... so, my weary travailer, come on over—take a well deserved load off, and set a spell...

And, kudos to Leo for his truly fine n' fitting riposte!

It was a long and strange series. Suddenly, the site won't be half of what it used to be. But I'm sure you will find other melodies worthy of your talents.
