The Lyrics

I was in Atlantic City over the weekend. The first casino to open there after gambling was legalized in 1978, the Sands, closed last year, and is currently in mid-demolition. Bruce Springsteen said of Atlantic City, "Everything dies, baby, that's a fact, but maybe everything that dies someday comes back." In this case, don't count on it.
On a day like today
we'd pass the time away
dropping our quarters
at the Sands.

How we laughed
then we cried
each time a coin would slide
dropping our quarters
at the Sands.

We made a vow that we
would go down the sea.
But somehow that vow
is now history.

Now my broken heart aches
when I see sign that shakes
leaving dropped letters from the Sands.

(whistle break)

Now my broken heart aches
when I see sign that shakes
leaving dropped letters from the Sands.
