Original Song Title:

"I Wish I Were an Oscar Mayer Wiener"

Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"A Linguistic Gift Is the Surname 'Weiner'"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

A linguistic gift is the surname “Weiner,”
Eponym that prompts hilarity.
You’d think that maybe Anthony’d be keener
Than to tweet his meat for all to see.

A linguistic gift: transposed bits in “Winer,”
He pronounces it as if the E
Followed the I—and this could not be finer
For a paronomasia spree.

A linguistic gift, sim’lar to “linguiça”
We get, compliments of Anthony.
With such a name, he really should think clearer
Before exporting shorts scenery.

I’m glad that I am not Anthony Weiner—
Everybody making light of me
And my name because I tweeted my wiener. . .
For privates pix, nix on privacy.

I once read about a man arrested for public urination, whose last name was Sprinkle. There must be 555 funny names out there that end up being strangely apropos in light of their owners' behavior....

Once saw a newspaper story about a Vietnamese immigrant named "Phuc Hue". I'm sure it's pronounced "pook weigh", but I can just imagine some teacher calling roll in class.

Hadn't heard of Weiner before I Wiki'd him, but I doubt many people from the UK would know who he is. Excellent piece of writing - learned a new word in paronomasia.
