"Slant Six Memory"

The Lyrics

My first car was a 1965 Dodge Dart with column shift and a slant six engine. I miss her even now (sigh).
I see the bluish frame that once was mine
Rides I often cherish in my heart
Parked off to the side
Sitting, passing time
And soon I will be selling her for parts.

We glided down the lanes, our merry way
Singing merry songs inside my mind
Love is now the red rust of yesterday
My sadness and that life ride by

Sometimes I sense her in the wind
My windows down, speeding right along
It seems to me, there’s no guarantee,
Old wheels will once again roll true
When the smell was new
And each thrill, a destination
A ride through rain and snow
A sweet sensation
It was familiar like a song

And if she ever stalled
It was alright
Things would move along
The way it sailed really told the tale
At any price her heart was true
Though life’s not the same
Of my car I will proclaim
My slant six memories
The long lost keys of youth untamed.
Okay, so I'm a sap. Leave me alone and pass the Kleenex! Originally appeared in The Blogging Baker.

Very good. Perhaps you can do a song to the hit from "Titanic"...My Dart Will Go On. ;D

I used to have a Dodge Ramcharger (kind of like a Bronco or Blazer) with a slant-six, about 5 years ago, but some dummkopf decided to rear-end it while I was performing jury duty and my vehicle was in a city parking lot. Total write-off. But it was very reliable. Your parody was excellent, and I will give you 5s.

Retro mellow! So, I see you're 'trafficking' in the oldies now?

OMR, I wish that Dart had gone on and made as much money as Titanic!. And Andria, my beloved died on a Pizza run when I delivered for Dominos long ago. To be honest, when people saw the Dart, I got better tips! And TJC, this oldie is timeless, one of those rare lyrics that move so easily through the music. If you get a chance, listen to Willie Nelson's version. Outstanding.
