The Lyrics

The Mitch Miller version of "Yellow Rose of Texas" was my first favorite song, back when I was all of one year old. It is derived from an old folk song with a variety of lyrics and arrangements. I've arranged these to suit the way I hear the melody.
She's the mighty Ed Fitzgerald, and she sails the northern lake
Leaving all the other vessels far behind her in her wake
The cargo that she carries outweighs the ship by far
She delivers ore to steel mills, where it goes to build your cars

'Twas the last run of the season, just one more like the rest
Then they'd bring her into Cleveland for a well-earned winter rest
Only two weeks 'til Thanksgiving, with Christmas on the way
Sure, every man looked forward to a happy holiday

Where the gale force winds were blowing on a stormy starless night
They had her on the radar, then she vanished out of sight
The captain had reported that the Fitz could hold her own
Then the mighty Ed Fitzgerald, dove straight to Neptune's home

Now she rests upon the bottom, in water cold and deep
The lake, it's said, won't yield her dead; their secrets it will keep
But, the ship's bell has been salvaged, and they ring it once a year
In the memory of Fitzgerald, and the men no longer here

Patrick - Good job. I recommend checking out Stan Freberg's parody of the OS. ;D

Mitch Miller lived to be 99. Buddy Holly, who he didn't like, lived to be 22. Explain this BS!

Every time Michael writes a comment, I get another idea for a Fitz parody. Maybe Mitch took the train to get around. I have heard Stan Freberg's "Yellow Rose", though I will have to go back and listen again, it's been a while. From what I understand, Freberg was not particularly fond of Elvis.

How about tackling "Ship of Fools," "I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing In," "Come On Down to My Boat, Baby," "Michael Rowed the Boat Ashore"? Hell, maybe I'll try it.

I reserve "Michael Rowed the Boat Ashore" for next week. You can have the others if I don't beat you too them. Or even if I do.

It's all in the goatee, Michael.
