The Lyrics

This is an issue with two sides and no right answer. Read this carefully and you will see a reference to an old Johnny Carson joke.
His name was Pat O'Shaughnessy, he built the gosh darned dam -
Although it's one of many it's the pride of Uncle Sam.
It waters San Francisco and keeps her lights aglow -
It keeps those turbines humming and it makes the water flow.
When first the dam was finished it made the country proud -
When it turned on San Francisco all America cheered aloud.
When Kennedy came to Yosemite he shook me by the hand -
He said, "Well, I'll be dammed if there's no finer in the land".

Chorus: Oh, the sun goes down and the lights go on and the power lines hum away,
But that may be the end of it,
If the activists have their way.
Hetch Hetchy, Yosemite's up in arms,
Ron Gold is sending out spam,
"A pox on ole Yosemite is O'Shaughnessy's dam!".

Chorus tag: Shut yer mouth, yer full o' balarny, sock in it ya liberal pig!
Same to you, yer full o' malarkey, same to you, and you, and you, industrialist pig!

O" me name is Chief O'Hara, I'm a Meewok Irishman -
Ya dare to call me half breed? I'm a Native American!
And, to boot, I'm an Irishman, that makes me just divine -
I wear shamroks with me feathers 'cause me tribe it is Sinn Fein.
Well, me homeland was Hetch Hetchy before they built the dam -
Now me home it is a reservoir, that's such a bloody shame!
The Caliente, Fugowee, Meewoks and Schmeewoks, where ever did they go?
And here I sit 'neath the gosh darned dan in a canyon right below.

What would folks do without something to fuss about? Let's see how Gordon Ramsey would interpret this.

How did that wide space between the lines get there? I didn't write it that way.
