Original Song Title:

"Singing In The Rain"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Gene Kelly

Parody Song Title:

"Mocking People's Pain"

Parody Written by:

Arwen & Ashkicksass

The Lyrics

Along with our beauty and wit, we (Ashkicksass & Arwen) have found a common bond in our inability to supress our giggles when we see people fall...
We're mocking people's pain
Just...mocking people's pain
Don't want to hurt your feelings
But...please fall again

I'm laughing at fools
Who trip up the stairs
'Cause the thuds that they make
Erase all of my cares

If you land on your face
Joyful tears start to trace
Slip Slide in the rain
I love your lack of grace

There's blood on your knee
We just say hee hee
We're mocking
Yes mocking all your pain

Ah yes, but who amongst you is the Greater? Ash The All-Powerful Asskicker, or Iluvatara The Omnibeautifully Divine? Oh yeah, 5's. I sense a Mount Olympus Cat-Fight-Amongst-The-Goddesses brewing.... ;-D
Ashkicksass - July 27, 2004 - Report this comment
You wish, Johnny. We've agreed that we are equally fabulous. And thanks Cookie and Kristof!

Oh, darn! No Cosmic Cat-Fight between the Infinitely Fabulous Queens of Olympus? And I was so looking forward to sneaking a few voyeuristic up-skirt-peeks from the valley below as I gazed up the awesome slopes of Mount Olympus beneath your Gossamer Goddess Gowns as they swirled in the fury of your feline ferocity!

Yeah...Ashkicksass and I are totally on the same level of Awesomeness. How else do you think we were able to collaborate and actually submit this parody? I wouldn't have been able to do it with anyone else, I don't think. Thanks everyone for stopping by!!!

Yes, thanks Frankie, John, and Johnny! And Arwen, how is your gossamer gown, today? Mine is a little itchy. I wonder how Johnny knew that we both happen to be wearing them at this very minute...
Arwen - July 27, 2004 - Report this comment
I have a feeling that Johnny has been listening in on our private conversations...either with his psychic abilities...or a phone tap. Oh, by the way...I dropped my bagel on my bosom this morning. Face down. Cream cheese and Gossomer just don't mix...just FYI...

Great work, gals, very funny, 5s you earned! And here's one to mock: I'm walking downtown a few weeks back, at a brisk pace, and as I'm passing an alley, to my right I see these two guys working on this incredibly old, cool bicycle. Though this seriously captured my attention, it did not slow my pace. Walked smack into a BRICK planter box, and ended up IN it! People at an intersection stopped for the light, laughing, dirty knee bleeding, etc..
Ashkicksass - July 27, 2004 - Report this comment
Oh Rod! You made my whole day! I am crying. Now I need to know: were you in downtown Reno? Where exactly were you? I need the complete image!
Arwen - July 27, 2004 - Report this comment
555 for your story, Rod!! Heehee!
Rod - July 27, 2004 - Report this comment
Ash: Where exactly was I? I was exactly in the middle of the planter, where I had belly-flopped! = ) I think if I would've seen that exact thing happen to somebody else, I would've ******* my pants laughing! Got out of there pretty fast, I did, like nothing had happened out of the ordinary, blood running dwn my leg.. Auburn CA, btw, is about 2 hrs W of Reno. Maybe someday I'll tell you about dumping my motorcycle in front of a park bench full of gals..

Arwen - July 27, 2004 - Report this comment
SHOT IN THE DARK, ROD: Spring break, young Rod riding his motorcycle to the beach, up Main St to the boardwalk, cruisin' slow (looking cool, he's thinking), people everywhere, a bench full of pretty girls he notices as he stands on the footpegs to look out over the seawall. What he did NOT notice was the approaching curb, which literally bounced him backwards into a heap in front of the girls! ..Only thing hurt was his pride. Got out of there in record time..

And, to give you your very own comment, TTP...mostly because I STILL don't know how to do line breaks...trust me...I've tried...THANK you very much! I'm not at liberty to share all twelve steps to basking in Ashkickass' and my glory...but the first three are: 1. Tell us how great we are. 2. Tell other people how great we are. 3. Tell us how great we are...; )

Here in New York ,enjoying yet another cloud filled day of rain and gloom(12 more like this and I start loading the ark...)I can count my blessings knowing that while the one nearby star hides her beauty behind the clouds, two others walk the the earth, brightening my day in their own special way ! A.k.a. and Arwen--thanks!

TTP...awww...thanks! Admittedly, step four is "Make constant reference to our Heavenly Bodies" ; )...MERRY...heehee...thanks! ROD...you'd better be able to back that up, mister. We might just stop submitting all together...just to see if you could handle us both...=) PIPPIN...you and me both, little Hobbit...it would have made the movie 10 times more enjoyable! And PHIL...I don't know that one...maybe Ashkicksass does...she could do a special version just for you...=) THANKS, All of you!

Wow...just got on and I'm overwhelmed. Who knew our bit of fun would be so popular! Thanks to everyone! Rod - I mean what part of downtown Reno were you in, Ding Dong! And yes I know Auburn - I have a very dear friend that lives there. I'm still laughing at your story, btw. TTP, wow...I think we're both totally flattered. And you're clearly a genius. Merry and Pip, thank you darlings, and LOL to both of you! And Phil, I'm going to have to go with Arwen on this one. I don't have a clue what you're talking about either. Perhaps you should write that one...you know as a tribute to the two of us...

I guess it's a Brit thing only, then - but you've probably got the format by another name: a TV show where viewers send in videotape of their mishaps and get laughed at for £100...
Arwen - July 28, 2004 - Report this comment
Ah...America's Funniest Home Videos...there aren't many things that bring me greater joy. However...I get totally annoyed when people tape themselves trying to be funny and send it in. I only laugh at the accidental mishaps. That's good stuff!

Sk8r Grrrl - you're right. We're not very nice. But we're cute. So technically, we don't have to be nice to people. You will learn that when you get to high school. I'm kidding. (Sort of.) We really meant this all in good fun. So I'm sorry if you were offended by it.
Arwen - July 30, 2004 - Report this comment
LOL, Ash...you are SO bad. And JOHNNY...thanks for the "re-vote." It's totally cool that you're going at it...but...we still have your fabulous comments, and that's all that really matters to me. If you notice my songs losing votes...and you WANT to go re-vote for them...that's cool...but...it's not a big deal to me either way. In other words...I think most people will still be your friend if you don't want to take the time to do that...
Johnny D - July 30, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks, Arwen. Yeah, I'm throttling-back on the re-voting business now....I might possibly still, from time to time, toss a re-vote out here or there, but I've come to my senses.....I'm a realist now about the utter futility of tilting at this Quixotic windmill.
Paul Robinson - July 31, 2004 - Report this comment
Arwen - Just call him "Johnny Qui-votey", tilting at computer programs that are already on tilt. Johnny, I bet everyone who got one of the "re-votes" really appreciated the effort you made, I know I did. I did a few, especially when I saw from the comments that a parody probably had somewhere near double-digit votes and now only showed maybe 2. But you are right, it is a rather large undertaking and scrambles up the time you might like to devote to reading brand new, fresh from the oven parodies, writing new ones yourself and responding to comments on your current ones.

Thanks, this was good. This is the problem with occasional co-writes. They don't show up on the list. That's why I think the monkey house is growing.
Arwen - August 20, 2004 - Report this comment
Yeah...I keep telling Ash that we need to just do more collaborations so that eventually people can have access to this...which we are very proud of...but who knows how long Ash and I will take to write 9 more!

You see...neither of us are willing to refer to ourselves as monkeys...so...we are at an impass...

i can't believe that you guys wrote a parody about making fun of people. i don't think people should make fun in their parodies, because that isn't that nice, and making fun isn't what parodies should be all about. 555.
