SEEING THE LIGHT

What did I do? Oh bugger, what did I do?
Nicked some bottles from a priest
Tried to make a run for it.
How did I stoop so low?
And is it too late here,
Or can I return to a life without fear?
The lies in the bank that customers hear,
There where I stood with my bottle of beer!

If there’s another path to take
It’s one I really ought to take.
My job was a bore that I couldn’t abide.
They showed me some figures I just couldn’t hide.
Then they found me and sent me to jail,
Now I’m broken, feeble and frail.

So why have I allowed that priest
To hit a nerve and change my ways?
He let me share his measly supper
I drank all his booze, and then a cuppa.
My strife he claimed could turn around
So is he right?

My style of life has not been good,
For everything I’ve had to fight.
Rip ‘em off when you can!
Charge extortionate fees!
That is what I had worked for!
Bring them down to their knees!

But all he had to do was tell,
And I’d be back inside that cell.
Instead he gives me one more chance
To prove there’s something here inside of me.
He said I’m good deep down inside
So, is it true?
Perhaps I ought to try and see!

To change my life would be quite hard
Try as I may, I fear I’d fail.
But the law is closing in
And I’ve nowhere else to go.
Turning back would be a sin.
By deed poll I will change my name
And Connor Blake will be no more.
