The Lyrics

Thanks for the memory
You always held our hand, every woman's man
All your lovin' you were given', yes, we understand
How groovy it was.

Thanks for the memory
How loverly you crooned those psychedelic tunes
The Hollywood Bowl, Ed Sullivan Show you always made us swoon
How dreamy it was.

Many's the years since we met you
We were such kids when we knew you
No way will we ever forget you
You're still such fun and number one.

And thanks for the memory
Of Lucy in the sky, diamonds in her eyes
We thought you were meshuga but now we realize
How clever you were.

Thanks for the memory
Tomorrow never knows, down the stream it flows
Within you and without you strawberry fields go
Were we having fun!

Thanks for the memory
Of yellow submarines sailing seas of green
There came a time the day you fine - ally got to meet the Queen
How lovely it was!

You went your own ways when you parted
But you're just right back where you started
You were such inspired artists
Past sixty four but back for more.

So, thanks for the memory
George you were divine, Paul our Valentine
And Ringo with his bongos and John his clever rhymes
Never to forget you they were such crazy times -
So, don't let it be!

Great job of working in all the Beatles songs and other references! 555!

What Leough said. And a nice tribute to boot.

Thanks, Leough, John and AFW - I remember the first year the Beatles took America by storm. One critic said they were a passing fancy and would run out of steam. How wrong he was. I for one thought they were the best thing since swing music of the Forties.

I like 'title-checking' in my musical-nostalgia parodies too, so this kind of thing appeals to me, though it's not an OS I would have chosen. To appreciate this mercurial band, you have to get past the hits to the album tracks, which you've obviously done.

I don't think there's ever been a band who could produce quality in such quantity, For many people of my generation, they simply opened our eyes to the sheer joy of making music, for no other reason than that.

This boy's not going to hide his fives away.

Thanks, Lifeliver - I just think the best music came out of the Forties and Sixties. There was some good music in between but the Beatles brought pop music out of a slump. By the way, the Andrews Sisters made more gold records than the Beatles.
