Song Parodies -> "Play In Nate's Garage"

Original Song Title:

"Say It Ain't So"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Weezer

Parody Song Title:

"Play In Nate's Garage"

Parody Written by:

Matthias

The Lyrics

Based on Weezer's music video (I actually really like this band so this isn't about them)
[Kyle]
(We’re poor… It sucks)

[Peter]
Near your dad’s Chevy
We put up our drum set
The track caught your dog bark
We’re back to square one
Dudes, Are we famous yet?

[Nate]
Oh no…
Dad bites
“Take the trash
Outside”

[Peter]
We won’t get groupies
It’s worse than country
The mic has static, yet again-again-again
So wiggle the jack
It’s something MTV… Won’t watch…

[Kyle]
Play in Nate’s gara-ra-rage…
We use your laptop’s speakers
Play in Nate’s gar-ra-rage…
Don’t breathe in the mic, Peter!

[Peter]
What’s our direction?

[Kyle]
Let’s sound like U2

[Nate]
We’ll play like The Who!

[Peter]
Or Paula Abdul

[Kyle and Nate]
Dude you're lame

[Nate]
Let’s stick… to Alternative Rock like Creed
Our band name’s ‘Plumber’s Fire’. That okay? (Yeah)

(Peter)
That sounds cool

(Kyle)
Play in Nate’s gara-ra-rage
Your mom is a MILF, Nathan!
Play in Nate’s gara-ra-rage
Sell tunes to bring home bacon!

(Nate, Peter, and Kyle)
Dear Warner,
We’d like you to hire us as clients
Listen up
You need us
We’re too good so be aware
Our album is awesome
As for the art we ‘drawed’ some
Please use it, our music
Will blow your brain, I mean it Bud…
Yeah
Oh yeah, Oh yeah

Still in Nate’s gara-ra-rage
We got sent a hate letter
Still in Nate’s gara-ra-rage
Said Yoko Ono’s better…

Squire Matthias, loved the ref to Yoko OhNo ! what a rejection that would be, sir !

Great job! I love the OS, so points there, and I know what it is like to be in a garage band...me and my brothers were in a band called The Sporksters performing covers and my parodies. But we only performed three times and that was it...hopefully Plumber's Fire (great name) can do better than that!

Quite a performance from the garage.

I liked the funny little story, with multiple characters. Although the pacing was perfect on the page, singing/reading it was a little bit clunky. Rock on.

(SOTM) The pacing was a little bit off in the verses, but that kinda added to the "crap band" aesthetic to me. Fantastic stuff for such a simple OS, 555!

Whoops, forgot which contest this was, this is (ABC), not (SOTM), my bad!

Nice use of opposites from the original ("Oh no" and "Outside" instead of "Oh yeah" and "Inside"). The brainstorming of styles led to my favorite line: "or Paula Abdul." The "Dear Warner" section works particularly well for the parody's purposes! Nicely done all around!

(ABC) Loved the different characters thing. Sometimes it made it hard to follow, but it definitely made the story more fun. "Dude you're lame" LOL!
