The Lyrics

A great start to 2013... a rant as to why the hell TV producers cancel the best of the best sometimes.
I can’t see listings
Without wondering if the listing is wrong
Still my mind starts twisting
I hear my mind sing all the
Words to my show’s theme song

Or I might
Make up some words
If the theme song in question
Has no words

Why do they cancel good TV?
I get a-watchin’ but they are pilot-swatchin’
Why do they cancel good TV?
Even when ratin’s are risin’
They can’t resist downsizin’

I want to protest
Get a bag of peanuts at the dollar store
Or just expose my chest
They’re always saying less is more

Or I might
Just make up some words
If a theme song in question
Has no words

Why do they cancel good TV?
I really get bitchin’ when they start their switchin’
Why do they cancel good TV?
Even when the show’s popular
It’s still not a “blockbuster”

Where will the good TV go?
Will it grow wings and fly so?
So far south

I can’t see listings
Without wondering if the listing is wrong
Still my mind starts twisting
I hear my mind sing all the
Words to my show’s theme song

Or I might
Just make up some words
If the theme song in question
Has no words

Why do they cancel good TV?
Should we have seen it coming with the show’s pilot?
Why do they cancel good TV?
Even when the pilot’s awesome
The viewers go play possum

Where does the good TV go?
Will it grow legs and flee so?
Flee so far

Why do they cancel good TV?
Is it because a good storyline jumped the shark?
Why do they cancel good TV?
Even when I’m watchin’ E! News
I’m still blowin’ up a fuse

Why do they cancel good TV?
Why do they cancel good T… V…?
So why DO they cancel good TV?

Because the old "solid" series of yesteryear don't last as long with stiff competiton from not only networks but cable. So what do the networks do? They amass too many new series knowing that around half will fail and can be rapidly replaced. Shows are now being canceled mid-first season, some incomplete. And fictionals need to fight against ever-popular reality-based shows which in the US translates as the rise of White Trash TV! Get used to it.

Remember "Jericho"? Best show in ages, CBS could not figure out why it failed. They deliberately sabotaged it. How about "Kings" on NBC. Any show that requires more than a living room and a bedroom for a set just "costs too much". If it requires thought on the part of the audience, forget it.

I remember "Jericho." I also remember the protest viewers led in an attempt to get it back on the air, which was what I wanted to reference in my song. I remember "Kings" as well; was it "Kings and Queens," by any chance?
