The Lyrics

I'm sure that you can all relate...but I've really been jonesing to write a great new LOTR parody...and inspiration has been eluding me totally. It's so annoying. LOTR is my fall back subject...when all else fails, I can always throw something together...but I've hit a wall. Needless to say...I'm a bit frustrated. So...here are the fruits of my frustration...
Caught in a dry spell tonight
Clever lyrics I can't write
What's the problem? I can't write a thing
Not even about Lord of the Rings
The Rings

Nothing's funny, pacing's wrong
I'm gonna scream before too long
'Cause I can't find the words to sing
Not even about Lord of the Rings

Inspire me
I'll watch the DVD
Inspire me
There's no reprieve

This writer's block I've never known
At steady pace my list has grown
It's more than just plain frustrating
I can't write about Lord of the Rings
I can't write about Lord of the Rings
I can't write about
The Rings

Well, I've written of folks from the Shire
And songs about that pit of fire
Now I can't take what's happening
I can't write about Lord of the Rings

Inspire me
Extended DVD
Inspire me
There's no reprieve

DKTOS, Arwen .... but may I offer a few possible ideas for LOTR parody topics? These are free for the taking - I love LOTR but I've already done my two parodies ("Gollum's Rhapsody" and "Longbottom Leaf"). So these ideas are for you, to do with as you see fit:

Tom Bombadil
The Old Forest
Old Man Willow
Goldberry The River-Daughter
The Barrow-Downs
The Barrow-Wights
The Woses/Wild Woodspeople
Greenwood-then-Mirkwood
Dol Guldur (where Sauron hid out before Barad-Dur)
Aragorn on The Paths of The Dead / The Oath-Breakers
Gimli, who was momentarily afraid to go underground at The Paths of The Dead, but who wasn't about to let an Elf (Legolas) go underground where a Dwarf wouldn't!
The Balrog / The Bridge at Khazad-Dum / Gandalf's Battle with The Balrog
The Pass of Caradhras
The Grey Havens / Cirdan The Shipwright / Sailing Away Into The West
Minas Tirith, Tower of the Sun, Minas Ithil, Tower of the Moon
Merry and Pippin and Treebeard

Johnny...thanks so much for the tips...but it's not really subject matter that I'm struggling for...it's working it into a parody...finding the right song...the right lyrics...you know? It's driving me batty!

Old Man Willow = Old Man River, from Showboat

Tom Bombadil and The River Daughter.... The Cowsill's "The Rain, The Park, And Other Things"....something like "He loved, the river-girl..." or "She loved, Tom Bom-ba-dil..."

Song about Aragorn, "You're So Brave", parody of "You're So Vain"

Parody of Don McLean's "Starry Starry Night", "Cirdan The Shipwright", a bittersweet song of the Elves' longing for their homeland across the sea

I could come up with more....do any of these give you ideas? I don't plan on writing any of them .... feel free to take any concept above and do what you wish with it....

"For we could have told you, Elrond"
"One day you'd hear The Blessed Realm across the Sea call you..."
"Cirdan the Shipwright"
"Build your Elven ships so vast"
"Snow-white sails and silver masts"

...etc etc, see? Come on, Arwen, that's a parody I would truly love to see you write.....

How about 'It's Been A Good Year For The Woses', to Elvis Costello's 'It's Been A Good Year For The Roses'! Or maybe a remake of Costello and Paul McCartney's 'Veronica' in reference to Cate Blanchett starring in 'Veronica Guerin' in between her appearances as Galadriel in the LOTR films.

Arwen...is is OK with you then.....if I, myself, have a go at "Cirdan The Shipwright", as a parody of "Vincent / Starry Starry Night" ?

Go go...go Johnny go...you have my complete support. Then at least one of us will be writing quality LOTR stuff...=)

OK Arwen, I just submitted for the next posting a parody titled "Cirdan The Shipwright", of Don McLean's song "Vincent / Starry Starry Night".

Can't write about LOTR? Well, yes, you can. And, no, you shouldn't. The only Lord of the Rings I wanna see is Joe Torre.

Arwen - Until I bought "The Very Best of Sheryl Crow" DVD I was not that familiar with this song. Now I am. Good job 5's across ('course I like the one I did on this just the other day more, but, well...you know).

Paul...thanks for dropping into an old parody! And I'll let you like your "strong enough" parody more...partly because you're not in love with LOTR as I am...but mostly because you're a man...and well...it just makes sense...; ) Thanks a bunch for the vote!
