"M-2"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

The old .50 cal M-2s are going in Germany and soon the new Rheinmetall RMG-50 firing "Super 12.7mm" will arm Europe. It had its place in WW2 and postwar conflicts but was never the equal of the awesome German MG-42/MG-1/MG-3 family (which is also being replaced on German AFVs by the RMG-50 and with infantry with the HK-121). A once famous weapon, it now goes the way of the old Colt M1911A...
Old .50 (cal)
You are destined
Certainly
For the scrap heap as time goes by
There is another
Destined to replace:
12.7 (mm) Super
RMG-50, Bundeswehr

You held your place

Old M-2...

[A museum is no disgrace]

Actually, the M-2 will still be in service around the world for a long time simply due to both ample .50 cal ammo supply and nations that will stick with it even though better tech is available from Germany or Russia. The USAF twice tried to adopt the Mauser BK-27 for its new aircraft and it wasn't rejected but denied as "reliance on a foreign arm." Same for German assault rifles and other German armored vehicles.
