The Lyrics

The "party" referred to in the second verse is the Conservative and Unionist Party which held office at the time of the 2016 Brexit referendum in the United Kingdom and had previously promised to hold such a referendum. The divergence of views in the Theresa May led governments which followed the referendum made the achievement of a consensus almost impossible, triggering a series of incremental votes in the UK parliament from 2019, mentioned in verse 6 and postponement of the estimated date of the UK's likely departure from the EU.
Today, was gonna be the day
That Britain would flex its muscles,
Today, your many colleagues said,
Was when we’d all escape from Brussels.
I do believe that everybody
Feels the way I do about you now.

Safe seat, a phrase we can’t repeat
Says the fire in your heart’s gone out.
I’m sure, you’ve heard it all before
But your party’s really plagued with doubt,
I do believe that everybody
Feels the way I do about you now.

And all the principles we held are bending,
We twist and turn along the way, unending.
There are many things that we would like to say to you,
But we don’t know how

Because maybe -
You’ve gotta hold the Brexit baby
In the public realm.
I’m so underwhelmed.

Today, was gonna be the day
That Britain would flex its muscles,
Today, your many colleagues said,
Was when we’d all escape from Brussels.
I do believe that everybody
Feels the way I do about you now.

And while those simple slogans are unwinding
The umpteen incremental votes are binding,
There are many things that we would like to say to you,
But we don’t know how

I said maybe -
You’re drivin’ everybody crazy
In the public realm.
We’re so underwhelmed.
I said maybe (I said maybe)
Your policies are upsy-daisy
And rotting like an elm.
I’m so underwhelmed.

I said maybe (I said maybe)
You’re gonna be the one that frees me (tease me),
You’re gonna be the one that frees me (tease me),
You’re gonna be the one that frees me (please me).
Brexit is the term used to describe the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union (EU), a policy option widely advocated since 1990 and subjected to a public referendum across the UK during June 2016. "Brussels" is often used in the mainstream UK media as a shorthand term for the European Commission / Parliament / EU as many support staff are based there in the Belgian capital. The phrase "safe seat" suggests a parliamentary constituency that habitually elects a person standing for a particular political party, over ten or more years; the Maidenhead constituency in Berkshire is such a seat and Theresa May (the current prime minister) has represented it since 1997.
