| Parody Song Title: | "The Collapse of an Empire" |
| Parody Written by: | Rebecca Suzan |
This was written for a school project relating to turn-of-the-century China, touching on such events as The Boxer Rebellion/peasant uprisings and the Opium Wars.
Did you hear the news?
The opium is gone
and the peasants have started a civil war
They are angry at
the Manchu government
because of suppression and poverty
The common people were fed up
They took it in to their own hands
It all kept adding up
The Manchu’s are breaking up
Will they win the wars or will they lose?
The peasants formed a group
The “Boxers” they were called
They rebelled against Western influence
Then a turning point
A revolution
Finally a Republic was formed
The common people were fed up
They took it in to their own hands
It all kept adding up
The Manchu’s are breaking up
Will they win the wars or will they lose?
Grasping to control
So they better hold on
The common people were fed up
They took it in to their own hands
It all kept adding up
The Manchu’s are breaking up
Will they win the wars or will they lose?
The opium is gone
