The Lyrics

About a week ago, I realized that everything I wrote in August (all 2 parodies) was written specifically for a contest. Sad, I know. So...for the first time in my life...I've written something specifically with the intention of entering it into the SOTM contest. I'm not planning on winning with it...but I tried REALLY hard to squeeze a parody out before the end of the month...
I've got one week for a par-o-dy
Some-thing to en-ter IN S-O-T-M-C
Five days for my own safety, 'cause I'm
Scared that the updates won't happen daily
Three days for some breathing room
I dipped in my comic vault but found a vacuum
Any-day an epiphany
But I will still be amazed if I get a story

Hold it now and let an Elf think
Know my ideas stink
They mostly be-long in garbage cans
I'm writing trash for the cash
Now I've emptied my hidden stash
But I keep writing 'cause I want you to say "You're the Man!"

I know you all think I make great rhymes
But only some-times
Do I come up with real value
YOU all keep dropping mad hits
Tal-ent-ed misfits
I wanna run but I can't catch you

Gonna try and cry and sigh, ask why
Until my freakin' brain I fry
Wan-na do "Thriller" but it's monster beat escapes me
Gotta hear the song, the pacing's wrong
It isn't strong, words don't belong
I want a record deal but no one wants to tape me

What if I wrote about the crazy month at work I've had?
Can't be to "Be Our Guest," Cat'll be mad
I'm the kind of girl who thrives when the pressure's on
But now I can't write a thing and the month's gone
I have a tendency to write about guys for reprieve
So now my history's filled up with all those jerks

Less than one week for this par-o-dy
Face the screen and I stare; I'm going crazy
Five days since it shackled me
And this writer's block is GON-na kill me
I just fell down in the living room
My clumsy song quota's filled; it'd only spell doom
What a way for to humble me
'Cause I just realized to-day that I'm not so great, see

Tickety timer, the clock is tickin'
Don't wanna write songs 'bout my guy's toe lickin'
Lotsa ideas but no bright ones
Vin Diesel's hot buns
Who cares about my class re-un-ion?

The month is all passed, I'm getting frantic
No splitting pant trick
Is gonna fly; I won't be satisfied
I've done enough about the Elf films
Though they are great films
That Aragorn'll never be my guy

Gotta write a set of better lines
Gotta write the kind that blow your mind
Just so my songs will always leave the public laugh-ing
Gotta get my hand on something grand
No nothing bland, I wanna STAND-ing o-va-tion
Now is that such a bad thing?

I never wanted to think up some funny stuff so bad
It's too late to be-rate Angie or Brad
And the kind of guy I want at my beck and call
It's all been done before now; choices are small
I have a tendency to sing about how great I am
I have a history of be-ing a flirt

It's been one week since I started this
I should give up the fight, but I am still pissed
Five days that all came and flew and yet
I've still got no en-TREE; what am I gonna do?
Be-long in a rubber room
I read through my train of thought; hey what did I do?
What the hey--I'll submit to see
If there is more than one way to write a par-o-dy

Is there more than one way to write a par-o-dy?
Is there more than one way to write a par-o-dy?
Broke my cran-i-um, but at least I'm free

For the record...THIS is the hardest song I have ever parodied. And I'm not even saying I did it well...but I don't think I'd ever want to do it again...

Excelent bit of rambling there; I'm happy you included "Thriller" in the lyrics, because this reminds me alot of Kristof's "Filler"

Very clever. 555.
Serafina - August 31, 2006 - Report this comment
Very nicely done!! I would imagine that this particular song might've been pretty hard to parody...but you really nailed this! I'm very proud of you, arwen. I always enjoy your great parodies, and there's no doubt in my mind that it deserves a 5-5-5. =)

I see that you have another new parody for today...but I'll check it out later on when I'm not too busy. Have a nice day! :)

brilliant job on an impossible song

Bravo Arwen! Great job on a very difficult OS. We've been wanting to do this one for awhile, but haven't come up with anything suitable.
Dee Range - August 31, 2006 - Report this comment
That you completed this in a week is nearly impossible to believe, given it's difficulty. That you did it so well is not, given your brilliant track record. Top notch 5's
Michael Pacholek - August 31, 2006 - Report this comment
The thing is, if you win, will it be on merit, or because we're all mesmerized by your elfin lusciousness? Yeah, sure, like most of us wouldn't love to have your problems instead of our own.
Cat - August 31, 2006 - Report this comment
Hey now, I'm not THAT against "Be Our Guest"...it got me my first SOTM medal, after all! As a person who's done several meta-parodies (and to very hard OSes) herself, I know that they're hard to do without rambling, but you pulled this off beautifully.
Stuart McArthur - August 31, 2006 - Report this comment
well I sung this against the OS, which made me appreciate it all the more (some very clever subs) and on the strength of having done that, as God Is My Witness, I would never tackle this OS - it was hard enough just keeping up with the reading of it - wonderful job, Arwen - 555

Matthias...thanks a million! Anytime anyone compares me (in a positive light) to Kristof, I have to consider it a compliment.

Alex...thanks very much!

Serafina...awww...thank you so much! I really appreciate all of your kind words!

Alvin...sure, NOW you tell me it's impossible...; ) Thanks!

Merry...thanks a ton. I don't know how many people have done it before...but I can't wait until you and that other Hobbit (hee!) get something written to this!

Dee...what's really amazing about the week time frame is that I stuck with this monster for 7 whole days. Usually, if things don't start coming together for me within an hour or so, I give up. I'm not the best at persisting...(unless said persisting will get me some money or a hot date...; )...) Thanks!

Michael...oh, I really don't expect to win with this one...but as a general rule, any votes that I get, I ALWAYS chalk up to my lusciousness...so this one won't be any different...=)

Cat...=) That was the very first stanza I wrote...and I HAD to finish this bastard so that I could throw that line down...hee! Thanks for the props...I wasn't even trying not to ramble...so bonus!

Stuart...ah...the ol' sing it along with the OS trick, eh? Trying to find a place to ding me, eh? ; ) I'm actually pleased that you took a little extra effort to make it even more enjoyable. As YOU are my witness, I will never tackle this OS again either. It's a beast...so thanks!

I'm with alvin on this one!

(SOTM) LOL! Wow... a SOTM song... That's cool, goodluck 5-5-5

I LOVE these sorts of parodies, having done 1 or 2 myself (thanks for the shout out, Matthias, and the return compliment, Lady Elf)...and I've gotta say; you'd be hard pressed to find a betta meta! 555

(SOTM) Who the hell gave this 4's on pacing and funny? This is top notch. Sometimes desperation has been the stuff that greatness comes from!
wannabemustangjockey - September 11, 2006 - Report this comment
(SOTM) HOLY WOW ... I'm floored. This pulverizes the One Week parody I did two years ago about my history teacher (which I never posted on AmIRight) and even matches the OS's endrhyme in many places. The work you put into this must have been enormous.
Chris Bodily TM - September 15, 2006 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Never realized how fast the lyrics fly by! Great subs and great job on such an impossible song! I must commend you on that alone. Excellent for not having a parody to write. 555

It was OK, but you're right, too specific for SOTM.

Hee, hee. A parody about writer's block, which most if not all of us have experienced. 5's. -- MM

(SOTM) Writer's block, I know the feeling. 555!

(SOTM) If anyone ever asks me "You know that writer on Amiright that goes by the handle of Arwen? Does she have any talent at all?" I will be pointing them to this parody. They will all be believers!! (In my opinion) This is the best parody I have seen from you. I was chuckling through the whole thing, saying, "if she's so short on time, why such a long and difficult parody?" This be proof of thy masterful skill, says I.
Rick C - September 25, 2006 - Report this comment
(SOTM) What Tim said just before me. I chuckled all the way through this, extremely difficult song to parody. Also, here it is Sept. 25 and I still haven't submitted ANY parodies this month so, if I'm going to be in SOTM for September, I'd better get cracking. :-)

I am giving you a standing ovation right now. Standing at my desk, clapping at my computer. My boss thinks I'm a lunatic...

(SOTM) I absolutely LOVE parodies that are about...well, writing parodies! It allows you to name drop so many people, and they are ALWAYS hilarious. I've read a few in my time (and I've got some ideas for some), but this one takes the cake...mmm, cake...
Stuart McArthur - September 27, 2006 - Report this comment
(SOTM) yup, big effort here - you obviously do work well under pressure, Arwen - and I'll say it if you really want me to: "You're The Elf!"

(SOTM) Talk about statement of intent! And I gotta love the sheer bare-faced cheek on display here. You truly are an original, Princess! 555

Well done, reminds me of a writers block parody, but specific to SOTM. I took the easy way out and went with another contest entry =)
Arwen - October 01, 2006 - Report this comment
Well if it isn't the grandest of all ironies that I tried SO hard to get this posted in order to enter it into the SOTM Contest...only to be disqualified from said contest. I'm a little bit emotionally shattered here...=(

Still...it's not anyone else's fault that I was late with my votes...so the masses must be acknowledged...=)

Charnstar...thanks very much! I'm glad that you liked it.

Kristof...anything I can do that falls into the category of things that you LOVE...is a good thing. Thanks, KR...=)

Agri...thanks for the outrage on my behalf...I appreciate it, along with your kind words. =)

wannabemustangjockey...I don't think anyone who hasn't at least tried this OS can really appreciate what a beast it is. And the fact that you've written a One Week Parody lands you pretty high in my estimation. I think we should find the few brave souls who have tackled it and start a club. I'll be happy to make some t-shirts for us to wear to meetings. Oh...and thanks!

Chris...thank you...I appreciate it!

Cat...ah...done. Thanks again.

K1...sorry that you found it too be too specific...I was going for something with this parody that I think some people missed...which I suppose is probably my fault. Thanks for the feedback, though.

Michael...nice to know we're all in the same boat. I've had writer's block a time or two (hundred) in my life...

Jack...thanks.

Tim...well if that isn't a wonderfully fullfilling comment, then I don't know what is. I appreciate it VERY much...and, in response to your last little question, (in quotes)...I am glad that I got my little joke across to at least a few people...=)

Rick...oh, well in that case, please read my thanks to Tim, and feel free to enjoy them as your own...; ) Thanks so much, Rick!!

Ash...you get a 555 for using the word lunatic, and another one for making a fool of yourself at work on my behalf. I love you! Thanks!

Johnny...thanks...in the end I only sort of made it...but as I've said a million times before...I'm not in the game to win contests. Getting feedback from all of you makes it worth it. =)

bobpiecheese...thanks! Pass me some of that cake, would you?

Stuart...hee! Thanks a ton, Mr. McArthur...I appreciate the forced kudos...and also knowing that you'll sometimes do things just becuase I want you to do them...; )

Kristof...ummmm...my cheek being on display really had nothing to do with the parody, KR. Try to stay focused, please...I'm a little more than embarrassed now...

Jeff...I should follow your lead from now on. The whole killing myself fo the last week of the month didn't turn out to be as rewarding as I'd hoped...; ) Thanks!!
