Like Green Lantern of the DC Universe, Marvel's Nova is also a human being (named Richard Rider) that comes upon a dying Xandarian alien named Rhomann Dey that passes on to him the last power of Nova Prime. After he dies, Rider must learn how to use the new powers that are cosmic energy based and is trained by the Nova Corps to fight on earth and in the cosmos. His primary goal, however, is the cosmic protection of planets the Nova Centurians have patrolled as a form of space police. When Xandar is destroyed, however, Nova must fight enemies that seek to conquer earth. He battles the Skrulls and many other cosmic villains with the help of various cosmic and human superhero allies. Although Xandar is destroyed, its civilization lives on through the Worldmind which transfers this knowledge to Nova. Nova must balance his life between earth and the cosmos...
