"The Fighting Tarans"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Tarans were Polish and Russian pilots that rammed German aircraft early in the war from 1939-1942. The VVS did not order these attacks but gave guidelines to those who wished to pursue this tactic. Prop ram from behind, Wing ram or tip over, and full body ram. One book claims 561 Soviet rams with 635 kills... but only 270 have been verified and the kill numbers halved. Soviets hit fighters, bombers, recon, and transports. Germans rammed in 1944-45 in very limited numbers using only the Fw-190. 24 bombers killed and 13 fighters...
The fighting Tarans
Soviet aircraft as battering rams
'41-42 with airspace to defend
VVS had aircraft and men to expend

The fighting Tarans
I-16s (and Su-2s) flown by the bravest men
Chomping enemy tails, tipping, and hard rams
VVS had aircraft and men to expend

The fighting Tarans
270 engagements pilots entering the fray
Against the Germans
The Messerschnitts made many of them pay
Or turn away, Luftwaffe with the upper hand

Soviet aircraft as battering rams
'41-42 with airspace to defend
VVS had aircraft and men to expend
Female VVS pilot Yekaterina Zelanko with her Su-2 rammed a Bf 109 at high speed and was killed.

I read once of a US pilot whose guns jammed during an encounter with a Japanese plane. He flew just behind the enemy and chopped its tail off with his propeller. On the morning of Sept 11, 2001 there were no armed US fighter planes available to deal with possible additional highjacked airliners. US pilots were instructed that if an airliner failed to respond to orders to land that they were to ram the jet and try to eject.

How intuitive Patrick, I submitted the 9/11 ram earlier for tomorrow! Yeah, no time to arm the F-16s from Andrews. Lt. Heather Penny was ordered to ram United Airlines Flight 93 with her wingman. She would take out the tail and he would take the cockpit! Read more about it tomorrow...
