"Rifle, Pedersen"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

The US Amy in WW1 had studied actions in France that led to the John Pedersen proposal for a Springfield rifle conversion to automatic weapon using an inserted blowback device with an oblique magazine. This could be accomplished in 15 seconds by removing the bolt and fitting the device into the chamber. The cartridge was also designed by Pedersen and is unique, resembling a lengthened .32 ACP type used with no other US weapon. The theory was that a soldier in No Man's Land could keep up covering fire by firing the Pedersen from the hip while advancing.
Rifle, Pedersen
The designer then worked for Remington
Gun needed for covering fire in No Man's Land
.30 Self-loader became the solution

Rifle, Pedersen
"Walking Fire" for US infantry men
'03 Springfield with blowback conversion
.30 Self-loader became the solution

Rifle, Pedersen
Like Mauser was ahead of it's time for the day
Arrived at the end
Impossible to equip troops with to slay
High price to pay, and new ammunition...

The designer then worked for Remington
Gun needed for covering fire in No Man's Land
.30 Self-loader became the solution

Arrived in 1918, cartridge made by Union Metallic Cartridge Company

Saw one of the rare devices at the big annual Missouri Valley Gun Show in Kansas City. Handled one of the magazines at an auction house. It sold for over $600. The cartridge was later used by the French in the 1935A and 1935S pistols, and in the little submachinegun, one of which was used to execute Benito Mussolini. A few of the M1903 Springfield rifles with the ejection port may still be found.

Mussolini was killed by a 7.65mm MAS-38 smg which is displayed in the Albanian National Museum AFAIK...
