And the USAF is down to just 80 A-10 Thunderbolts, which the top brass wants to send to the boneyard.

I was thinking about the A-10 as well. The Russians have brought in lots of AA, however, so no easy kills. They have mobile gun and missile systems plus MANPADS. I'm sure if this was a real war situation that Fulcrums and Flankers would be hunting NATO aircraft while the Su-25s and Tu-160s would be bombing, even old updated Su-24s!!! GWB backed down on Georgia... I don't think Obama even cares about Ukraine.

Actually Patrick, the total of A-10s in active inventory is 283 between the USAF, their Reserve, and ANG. It is proposed to retire them in FY 2015, but since the F-35 is still non-operational and drones are in short supply... the A-10 may survive a bit longer. Also on the chopping block with sequestration cuts renewed would be the KC-10 tankers and some F-15C aircraft!!!
