"New Gun Laws Again"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

As of Jan 1, 2014 a series of new gun laws go into effect which will extend DOJ Records on individuals that buy long arms, extend certain long arm gun bans, and require a long arms certificate. No matter how much this feels good and right, it NEVER affects criminals or the mentally unstable, even kids with access to parents' guns. We live in the US which has a history of gun violence and ownership rights equally. And so what if a psycho gets a AR-15/AK/Shotgun to kill people? More people die from alcohol, smoking, and cancer! One could even argue these days that morbid obesity is an epidemic that kills millions- so should fat people be restricted from eating at fast food restaurants or buffets? New gun laws only cause surges in gun buying and the NRA gets another win through fear tactics. In my area, gun sales are up again and ammo is out in several calibers already based on the news!
New gun laws again
Shootings warrant endless legislation
Bans, DOJ records, mag limits… to what end?
Civil gun rights infringed upon again!

New gun laws again
Since some psychos shot some kids, so then
Harassment of gun owners begins once again
Civil gun rights infringed upon again!

New gun laws again
Gun violence happens almost everyday
Despite checks and bans
No way to prevent mentally ill from craze,
choice to slay. More laws just fail again…

Shootings warrant endless legislation
Bans, DOJ records, mag limits… to what end?
Civil gun rights infringed upon again!

Ad in Shotgun News urges Californians to purchase a belt-fed rifle receiver and have it registered before Dec 31, when future sales will be banned. I never liked "grandfather" clauses. One guy can have something because he was old enough, while a newcomer can't. This is how Canada is eliminating "prohibited" arms. If you owned a full-auto before 1977 you can still have or acquire them. Same for short barreled handguns before a cut-off date in the 1990's. A young person, just getting into shooting sports or collecting will never be able to have these arms. When was the last time California executed a murder? And how many years (decades) did that take to accomplish?

Patrick, it's not as bad as it seems in Cali despite the most rigid gun laws. Any person who has a HSC card can buy 1 handgun per month and most sporting goods stores and firearms stores carry a range of domestic and foreign arms. It's just that the foreign best cost a lot and demand is high for HK, Walther, SIG, Glock, IMI, Beretta, and CZ (where applicable). There's just a flood of American Colts, Rugers, and others to fill space but you can get any number of rifles and shotguns per month. Plenty of 5.56mm AR-15s and clones, .308 sporters too, and plenty of tac shotguns (most have railings for accessories). Not worried as upper counties N of SAC have 7.62mm SKS and AK clones available still. Down here for some reason a lot of people are buying .22LR sporters that look like SIG and HK battle rifles. .22LR ammo is out at Big 5 and .40 cal and 5.56mm run low. All new gun laws do is allow the NRA to spread fear and sales surge. Maybe it's time to buy a 3-D printer and .38 ammo Patrick ;-)

There are still was to acquire mail-order handguns, fairly inexpensive, but I won't outline them here. Right now I am working for the biggest gun store in Kansas. Sold 13 guns in one shift. .22 ammo is all but impossible. Kansas is unlikely to get weird laws such as in California, but prices are high and popular calibers disappear from the shelves quickly.
