It seems that the mysterious little blonde hair green-eyed girl dubbed "The Blonde Angel" taken from Gypsies in Greece (believed abducted) is in fact a Gypsie herself. Maria is the daughter of another Gypsie woman named Sasha Ruseva of Bulgaria who gave the child away 4 years ago due to poverty (she has 10 children)! So even though she was not abducted the centuries old cry of "Gypsie thieves!" is being heard all over Europe from Ireland to E Europe and is fueling anger directed at the Roma Community. In Ireland, 2 other children were taken from suspected Gypsie abductors; in Italy a paliament member submitted a petition that would call for all Gypsie camps to be investigated for positive identifications of all inhabitants; in the Czech Republic hostile calls for all Gypsie to be sent to the gas chambers was heard, and so on... The Roma Community has responded by claiming traditions that allow the transfer of children to other Gypsies, but this is not recognized in Europe. There are 11 million Gypsies spread out over Europe. Maria's case has fanned anti-immigration again and more hostility towards the Gypsies.

Note: During WW2 Gypsies were sytematically killed by the Nazis wherever encountered. Some were used to betray Jews but then were also killed afterwards.
