The Lyrics

Don't worry, it still paces. Hopefully, anyways...
I should've known better
Than to throw the damn remote
Now like my keys
I have given up all hope
Crawling 'round and raising dust
But I can't seem to find the damn things

I look behind the couch
Scouring the floor
Did someone pick it up
And take it out the door?
And now I've scraped my knees
So could you help me please?
I can't find it
And I NEED it, for sure!

Where's it gone? Remote's missing
Where has it gone?
I threw it on the floor
Now it's gone and it's annoying
Since now it's gone
I can't watch the telly properly
Sucks to be me

You may say I'm whinging
I have lost things before
But this is TERRIBLE, see -
Can't change channels no more!
Now you say it's my fault, too
'Cause I threw the thing away
But shut up and please help me, my "friend"
So I can watch the box at last!

Yes, it's gone and I'm searching
Where has it gone?
Did it land in the hall?
Where's it gone? But I've been thinking
Outside the box
Did it go THROUGH the wall?

(Insert guitar solo whilst I lose it completely)

But it's gone, and I'm weeping
Because it's gone
I can't afford one more
Now it's gone, but what's that scraping?
It's coming from
A RAT - oh joys galore!

Now it's found - there's much rejoicing!
Now what is on?
What, 'Neighbours'? Aw, HELL naw!

(repeat until fade, with more disbelief each time)
Yes, the rat stole the remote. Yes, I don't like Neighbours. The TV show or otherwise.

I don't 'do' remotes . . . but similar case with the phones! This moves well, Sir.
Kristof Robertson - June 18, 2008 - Report this comment
Lovely idea, bobpie....could've used a killer line or two to push it over the top...but the pay-off at the end was great!. 555
Matthias - June 24, 2008 - Report this comment
I think everybody can relate to this one, remotes like socks always have a tendency of hiding from us somewhere. This was good, but I agree with Kristof that it could have used a few more kicker lines, and I've never seen "Neighbors" so I didn't really get the punchline.
Agrimorfee - June 24, 2008 - Report this comment
(Artistry) Agreeance with Kristof & Matthias. "Neighbors" to statesiders is the last John Belushi movie, and a very acquired taste, but I think you might be referring to something else. What a friendly rat! Must have been Remy from Ratatouille on vacation down under.
Max Power - June 25, 2008 - Report this comment
According to the 9/11 "truthers", the government stole it.

(Artistry) Back in my day, we got up and walked to the TV to change the channels! And we liked it that way! Of course, there were only 4 or 5 channels back then too. Good work, this would make a good ad for partstore.com.

To all confused: Neighbours = stupid Aussie soap opera. I don't like soap operas. Got that? All righty then.

(Artistry) Believe it or not, thanks to the internet, I've heard of "Neighbours", something about this one really caught me--maybe it's because lately it seems some products are REQUIRING remotes to work properly, I really enjoyed it as I myself am a victim of losing remotes on a semi-regular basis.
Ethan Mawyer - July 08, 2008 - Report this comment
It was pretty clear what neighbors was from the context - not that it's a soap opera but something you didn't want to see. I can certainly relate to lost remotes and rodents behaving badly, and the pacing seems to be fine but with obscure songs I don't think that pacing is really an issue anyway.
Wolverine - July 09, 2008 - Report this comment
(Artistry) Ditto with Ethan, I've heard of Neighbours, never saw it, but it was clear what was meant by the reference. Very funny, and relatable Conq. Only thing it missed was a line about "it was in the last place I looked", like all other lost items. :-)

(ABCW) I like this. Great idea.
Matthias - July 13, 2008 - Report this comment
1st of all I disagree with Ethan's opinion, because this song has a backing track, so even though it is obscure it's recordable, and although you might not get as many listens with this song than you would with a recording of a parody of "Paint It Black", you'll still get a bunch of listens because of the title, so it is important that the pacing is dead on which yours is.

I would have been lost on this line:

"A RAT - oh joys galore!"

If not for your bottom comment. Did you ever find the car keys? And I hate soaps too as well as a some of my neighbors. So I can relate to the "Neighbors" ref even with the non Americanized spelling (Neighbours). Wonder why we Yanks dropped the "ou" dipthong on a lot of words? Anyone know why this is so?
Max Power - July 18, 2008 - Report this comment
What channel is it? Code is UR3
Stuart McArthur - July 22, 2008 - Report this comment
(ABC) wow, I can't believe the amount of attention your "Neighbours" ref got, bobpie - of course Neighbours was the show that brought us Kylie Minogue in all her cute glory - first Skyhooks, now Neighbours, will we Aussies have nothing left for ourselves?

and Ag, I do know the Belushi movie of the same name very well. I got obsessed with it for a while and watched it over and over - fave line is Dan Akroyd's "Let's go.....to the swamp!" and Belushi's "okay, okay, I willed the towel to drop" and Ramona's "I wasn't born with your hand in my bush"

and as for the remote, if you can't find it, just put out your left foot, then place your right foot in front, then left, etc. all the way over to the TV and flick the channel - who knows you might find the remote there too - fun stuff bobpie - 555

I love the "Aussie" references which, you must understand, I know nothing about. I do like Kylie though.
Na na na...na na na na na..I can't find the friggin' remote...anyway, good job
Below Average Dave - January 24, 2010 - Report this comment
Well I've seen this one a few times, I still enjoy it TCOP, this is one of the ones you took the extra time to make it work, which when you do, you really can blow songs out the water.
Jeff Reuben - January 24, 2010 - Report this comment
Very well done...you went far with this...farther than you threw the remote!
Matthias - February 02, 2010 - Report this comment
