I'd say that this is what kept getting me killed in Hyrule Warriors, but that was more "the game not letting me block mid-enemy-combo". Oh, and my never-hitting-the-dash-button...-ness.

Whew, for a moment there I thought you were going to talk about incontinence shields...instead, its a bit of gamer geek braggadocio.
Hence why the key is to attack first, works for Pokemon depending on how dedicated one can be on EV training.
