The Lyrics

Okay...first off...i don't expect everyone to like my parodies. We all have different taste and blah blah...but I wrote this to express my frustration when people give me all ones...but don't say why. I mean...if you don't think it's funny...fine...or if you think it is stupid overall...fine...but when everyone else is giving high scores for pacing, and you give a one...that makes me wonder. Anyway...i would just like people to leave comments with their votes...for my own peace of mind...
My name is Arwen
I like writing parodies
I've been getting votes from you
And I'd like some reasoning please

If you don't like the song I wrote
All that I ask is that you leave a note
Don't just give me ones and leave
Don't just give me ones and leave
Don't just give me ones and leave

Maybe you don't like the Rings songs
Maybe my humor's not your style
Or you think my pacing's all wrong
Am I just being juvenile?

I'm not expecting fives from you
But I maintain it's the least you could do
Tell me what justifies a one
Tell me what justifies a one
Tell me what justifies a one

That's all I want to say
Don't leave a vote and run again
Well, if you hate it that's okay
'Cuz I'd like your comments anyway

I guess I'll leave you all alone
If you think I suck, just let me know
And I'll sleep easier at night
And I'll sleep easier at night
And I'll sleep easier at night

I get the same thing...votes, but no comments. That speaks to all of us, I really think it should be mandatory to leave some kind of explanation, or at least a very strong suggestion! I didn't know the song here, but you are pretty well on pacing, and I agreed with the sentiment 100%. And I like Ring parodies.
Arwen - December 18, 2003 - Report this comment
Thanks, Adagio...glad to hear I'm not the only one...
Floyd's Garage - December 18, 2003 - Report this comment
I hear ya brother. I think I have the most songs written/least votes ratio. And when I do get a vote it's all 5's or all 1's. Go figure. Maybe I'd get more votes if I stopped writng parodies of heavy metal, 70's and 80's. Then again music from today is so awful, the song's original versions parody themselves. It's all about having fun anyway. No one's paying us to do this.
Mari D - December 18, 2003 - Report this comment
This dude is sure getting a lot of attention! We've all gotten a few 1s, so you're not alone. BTW, I don't look at a lot of your stuff because I don't know too many of those songs, but I do appreciate your "Rainy Days and Mondays" LOTR one.
Arwen - December 18, 2003 - Report this comment
Thanks to all of you who've commented. I knew that this would really be a "preaching to the choir" type of excursion. The song is directed to people who drop 3 ones without any explanation. It's confusing to get 6 fives on pacing and then a one. Does that person even know the song? how is everyone else getting the pacing? That type of thing. And clearly my ghost one giver isn't going to show his face now. I'm not at all upset by people who don't read/vote because they don't know the song or are not fans of LOTR...that's not the issue. I'm more frustrated by this seemingly one person who's taking all my averages down without giving one explanation why. So...thanks again! I appreciate it!!!

Oh, and also...Floyd's Garage...I write a lot of my songs to old(er) songs...i love the 80s!

Arwen: There is at least one person on this site who enjoys giving straight ones to folks. It may be jealousy, or an attempt to influence the standings, or it may just be a juvenile need to exert some perverse sense of control. Don't let it get to ya. You write good stuff! The "ones" guy (or gal, as the case may be) gets all of us from time to time.
Arwen - December 20, 2003 - Report this comment
I'm a tough broad...I'll deal with it...but it's frustrating none the less...
Paul Robinson - December 21, 2003 - Report this comment
Arwen, I hear you. And, to quote a recent President, I feel your pain (got hit, but only once). Don't know diddly about LOTR (in fact had to stop and figure out what that meant) so I'm not in your regular reading base. Stuff looks clever and well written so the "uno's" are almost certainly from the phantom. You know what though? If you write good stuff and you are pretty sure a work is up there at least in the vicinity of your personal standard you shouldn't let a bad vote bother you. Me? I got a little annoyed and then went home and whipped out a parody about him, if he wants to play with me I'll play back. I figure my verbal agility and song knowledge are more than an even match for the mouse finger of whoever this is. So you did the right thing to write about it. Oh, and if there is an idiotic or lame character in your LOTR stories you might think up a parody associating the "1-derful one" with. You'd be surprised how satisfying that can feel - very empowering. I really didn't think he(or she)liked being made sport of. I'm prepared to do more if necessary. There's a lot of songs with "1" or adaptable to including it.
Arwen - December 29, 2003 - Report this comment
Thanks for the advice, Paul...it did make me feel a lot better just to write this. As for the one-giver...I just think it's a wasted vote to leave without commenting...give me all the ones you want...just tell me why...but again...I knew I'd be preaching to the choir here...

I love the LOTR parodies! And this song fits the way Vega's original went.

For one thing, I didn't realize you could leave a reason; I just didn't see this far down. I thought Downtown was very well done but not funny--if anything I thought it sad and I felt upset over those who would laugh. this one I am still trying to get the melody in my head enough to judge the pacing but will probably give it a 4 if not a five because I thought it a cute and clever way of getting me to write this ;)
Kitty C. - January 22, 2004 - Report this comment
Well, after singing through most of it, I feel that the pacing is just slightly off. Still, I thought it humorous that you drew me out to respond to it so scored 5s on the other two . Oh and by the way, if I wasn't clear before, On Fall Down (Downtown) I only used 1 for how funny, the other two were 5s--the pacing seemed to be right to me although I haven't heard the song in awhile.
Arwen - January 22, 2004 - Report this comment
Kitty...the "Downtown" parody isn't sad. Believe me. While it is based on true events from my life...it's funny. It's funny because I can write a parody like this and make fun of myself...and not feel bad about falling all the time. It's my signature move...and I WANT people to laugh at it. So...while I appreciate your concern, and the fact that you're very compassionate...I personally think it's funny. People who know me...they think it's funny. So...Anyway...thanks for the comments...and the votes...
Adagio - January 22, 2004 - Report this comment
A little note to Kitty. Both Arwen and I have written fall down song to Downtown and speaking for myself, it's fun to write about our klutziness. :D
Arwen - January 22, 2004 - Report this comment
EXACTLY! Thanks for backing me up on that, Adagio! Clumsy people RULE!
Paul Robinson - January 22, 2004 - Report this comment
Kitty - I add another "2nd" to Adagio's; As another certified Klutz (strange for someone is actually pretty adept at tennis, basketball, ping-pong, etc) I think in my case it is mostly due to not paying attention or being constantly distracted. Anyway, in retrospect and once the initial pain is gone and the cuts and bruises healed these mishaps that I survived are quite amusing to me. I have to laugh at myself because it would be too heavy a load to dwell on this stuff. You know my Dad (88 years-old now, 89 on March 2) broke his hip in May trying to take a short-cut in a parking lot. He's mostly healed but still has some lingering problems. He was telling me when he was still bed-confined how stupid it was and said, "I could just kick myself". I said, "Dad, not until your hip heals." I got a grin & grimaced smile from him, he lightened up on himself a little. I can't hold myself to perfection, I just try to be more careful and aware of my surroundings. That DOES help, by the way.. Thanks for the explanation, sometimes writers sit and wonder what they did wrong and it's good to know a reason for low scores.
Arwen - January 22, 2004 - Report this comment
I'm sort of with you, Paul...I think I get easily distracted...and miss where I'm going a lot of the time...and I also trip and slip a lot...but I also can be walking down a hallway...unobstructed...and just fall over. For no reason. Those are actually my favorites, because I rarely get hurt...but they are so hilarious!! I don't know. I didn't used to be this clumsy as a young child. I really think it started when I broke my back in the 8th grade...(I fell over a chair, while doing a dance routine to "the way you make me feel" by michael jackson...now, that's a parody i need to write, eh???)...and according to X-Rays...by back healed crooked. I think it screwed up my balance or something. But I have the best anecdotes that are always in constant demand...so...at least some good came of it, huh? =)

Arwen, so I see at least one other Loon than myself is still up reading and commenting (and maybe even posting in your case?). I think I noticed you mentioned you're in Wyoming? Never been there, some rather Wide-Open spaces as I understand it. Cold here tonight (under 30 outside) but ok INSIDE...probably a bit of a chill in Laramie (right?), too.
Arwen - January 23, 2004 - Report this comment
That was the last comment of the evening for me yesterday, Paul...and no new parodies...=( I try to get to bed earlier and earlier these days...but once I'm online I lose all track of time. And yes...it's COLD in Laramie. I had a 7:00 meeting this morning and wanted to die when I walked out into the Wyoming wind!!

I feel really stupid admitting this, but IDKTOS! But since you indirectly ripped the Ones Guy, I had to give it at least fours. Maybe I would've heard the original song if Tom's was like other diners and had little jukeboxes on the tables.

Hmmm...if you don't know the song, MP, you can just give me 5s. I won't mind...; )
