I looked right out of my window today
Saw a newsman filming a story 'bout a young man who had passed away;
Saw a sad mother hiding her daughter's eyes from a horrible sight:
Two lifeless souls laying prone on the ground in the black of night

All this crime,

Two police came 'round my house tonight,
One black, one white, representing "Ceasar's finest"
(Or to find the bloody knife)
One to search, one to preach which way the case could go;
Probing and hoping to place somebody up on Death Row,

If I had my way, I'd take a tip from the "river",
And I'd bury the "old hat", I'd bury it, indeed

As these words were spoken I swear I heard the lawyer laughing,
"What good is that piece of paper and how come you're not laughing?"

Parents taught us that the law (man) was your friend,
But they built a wall and an image
At the edge of nearby insanity town,

Yet, the DA would not make a sound,
So the umpire fumbled and all that was left were a bunch of macho clowns...

If I had my way, I'd set fire to the "river"
So angry and frustrated, It's a wonder so many people come undone...

Saw childhood smiles from another world in a faded light,
Released and gone on into the black of the night...
