This song is about all the armchair generals who never served but think/know all the answers. When the Cold War ended peacefully, I thought mankind had learned a lesson. At the same time the US invaded Panama on a totally unrelated issue and what needed to be done was done with not much of a media circus at all. That all changed with Desert Storm in 1991. Now just like that episode in the original STAR TREK, war has become so neat and painless to most Americans there's no reason to stop doing it. iraq, Afghanistan, Haiti, Syria, Libya, etc. - it's all become a modern Roman gladiator game thanks to TV and later the internet. Not to mention the even less 'painless' (but still devastating) effects of the new method of cyberwar.
