The Lyrics

I know Malcolm's done this already, but I made the mistake of writing it before checking... they seem different enough to me to warrant posting this one, too
The lights are on, but you're not home
You're wasting power - you ain't alone
An' drivin' round in your Humvee
More g.p.m. than m.p.g.

The TVs on, the air con too
So tell me what you tryin' to do?
You love to drive, you love to fly
I hate to tell ya, Bud, that's why:

You don't conserve it, you're just lettin' it boil, oh yeah
You've had life good, but now it's startin' to spoil, you know
You're gonna have to face it you're addicted to oil

The prices rise, we still don't see
No increase in efficiency
And ever more, more oil burns
Giving Exxon higher returns - nobody learns

To cage the beast
Buy power from the Middle East
And the more power you have to buy
Gives power to the other guy

The guys you buy from, don't they make you recoil, oh yeah
You try and change your ways and stop pollutin' the soil, but
You're gonna have to face it you're addicted to oil

Might as well face it you're addicted to oil
Even Bush says it, you're addicted to oil
Always have to chase it, you're addicted to oil
No, you can't replace it, you're addicted to oil

Good thoughts, good lines, such as "More g.p.m. than m.p.g."

Thanks for the comment, Malcolm.. not that I'd lose sleep over the thought, but I don't like treading on toes (unless it's intentional, of course ;-) ).
JJ - I've had the "gpm/mpg" thought for a while now - just needed somewhere to slot in

I remember hearing something, years ago, about a guy who invented a home heating system that used less than half a quart of oil per month. It consisted of two drums, one a fraction smaller than the other. The smaller one fit inside the larger one and, it spun, creating friction and heat. Apparently it worked incredibly well but, never made it into production. I doubt the oil companies had anything to do with it though. Excellent work, Phil! 555. By the way, I just noticed your comments on my "Fan of Lepidoptera" parody. Thank you! In your comment, you said you DKTOS though. That shocked me. I thought "Phantom of the Opera" was widely known, especially in the UK, where it originated.

I was surprised you weren't familiar with it because I think of it as a show tune and, show tunes seem to be one of your many areas of parody expertise. (IMHO) :-)
