The Lyrics

Can't afford?!?! Bwhhahahaaha... Oi, oi, oi!

Crazy--economy woes
Millions in cash debt, losing their homes
Some say... it is too late
To love, laugh and grow
In the United States

Even in food shopping
Things just aren't the same
All losing finance deals, no more gravy train
Hear how the brakes do squeal on the gravy train?

I've eaten raw oysters
And succulent goose
I've enjoyed broiled lobster
Drunk premium brews
But during recessions,
When you're on the dole
For food, you downgrade it
Eat from a new bowl

Though rich foods I'm craving
Budget's on my brain
I'm eating dinner meals thanks to Gravy Train
Tastes like beef and veal, yummy Gravy Train!

It's the dog food that makes its own gravy
I could be doing so much worse, yeah!

Battles in the price wars
I totaled the sum
My groceries doubled, yet lived like a bum
Tasty, with Fido I now share
We're both craving something
That just can't compare

Cheap food so outstanding
With ironic name
I'm eating dinner meals made with Gravy Train
I'm sharing Fido's bowl now with Gravy Train

Great job... I was wondering if anyone was going to do this. Such a timely parody... :)

Gravy? I thought it was cabbage that people were in short supply of. Heheh. Good transition from the regular meaning [of the title], to dog food brand. 555

Does this mean you're "The Aggy Dog" now?

It's a dog eat dog world, Agri! Did you enjoy that Gravy Train meal? I echo all comments on this page! Here, I'll lend you $555 to pull you out of your financial plight. (Better yet, we've faced financial hell). P.S. Every time my dogs eat Gravy Train, they always end up going to the bathroom and getting sick.

(Artistry) One of those titles I've had in my head for awhile but never acted on, glad to see you did it well! I enjoyed this quite a bit. And a kibble.

Ewwwwww... That's pretty gross Agrimorfee. You know there's easier alternatives to dog food that might actually be cheaper than dog food, like Ramen. Although then you need water and a stove and if you already lost power and water then you might be in more of a problem than I would like to know about.
LittleCupCakes - January 16, 2009 - Report this comment
^ Squire Matthias, I enjoyed your comment ! Yes, here in NorCAL ~Ramen~ is definitely cheaper than K-9 meals !

(Artistry) Well, now you know why dogs lick their testicles :P I didn't see that coming from the title, nor did I see that it would involve the economy going down the loo. Great work, Agri! 555!

(Artistry) I hear that this parody has inspired Purina to start selling giant bags of People Chow. And sharing it with Fido? I'd wok the dog if I were you. Well done.

It's unbelievable how many 5's I've been giving. Parodies like this make me as insecure as an asian in a men's locker room. [Lol]. 5s for this song. Funny subject matter, and relevent, and the pacing is perfect.

[SOTM] See above. Also, my apologies for the Asian joke above. Just a joke, guys.

I never thought I'd see "It's the dog food that makes its own gravy" in a parody. But I'm glad I did; tasty stuff.

Nice phrasing, with mostly short phrases to work with. "finance deals/brakes do squeal" and the "sum/bum" couplet stood out for me. Good luck with your continued woes, Agri. Hang in there.
