Ever since 1991, when the Desert Storm Gulf war was broadcast 24/7 on all TV (and that time, radio) it entranced and captivated audiences in America to stand in front of TV screens (the bigger, the better) and get manipulated emotionally over current events as they happened. Desert Storm, elections, O.J. Simpson murder trial, the 1994 invasion of Haiti, pop tart 'superstars' doing stupid and provocative things, the Branch Davidian standoff (1993), a President with the flu barfs at a conference in Tokyo (George H W Bush), another gets pinkeye (Bill Clinton), who zooms who (that incl. Clinton's sexcapades), funerals, anything. The masses gather round and get manipulated by the outcome on the Big Brother TV screen, never mind the TV ads dictating to us what we 'want' and how to live. Hysteria, sensationalism, BS, gossip, talking heads. It's so Orwellian, so fucking 'Sieg heil' I CAN'T STAND IT!!!! It makes me sick sick SICK. How about getting hyped up about the pleasures of the Aussie rock band INXS instead? Brains, brawn, sex appeal, kick-ass rock'n'roll, innovation - what's not to like there? I never got to see that band while it existed, I wish I did.
