I wrote this one in August 1991 shortly after a failed Soviet attempt to reverse the Second Russian Revolution. The players include Soviet president and reformer Mikhail Gorbachev, Russian President Boris Yeltsin, who had his own "White House", and USSR Vice President, Gennady Yanayev, whom the hard-line Communists were backing. Of course Central Asia is nowhere near the Baltic Sea. However, I've found out just now that the oceanless Central Asia is bordered on the west by the Caspian Sea, which has no inlets, very little salt, and is arguably a large lake. Go know.
