"A View Of A Quail"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Meeting you with a view of a quail
Face to faces, outdoor ranches, feel the chill

Daylight exposes me
But you know that I'm planning on
Making a scene
Could it be the whole media opening wide?
A sinful why...a controversy gaping inside
The reason's why...that's because...

I just shot the lawyer
That blow could've been fatal
I just shot the lawyer
The sounds of the laughing quails
I just shot the lawyer
That blow could've been fatal
I just shot the lawyer

The choice for you is the view of a quail
Between the shades impeachment standing still
The first ruby blood
Fall as snowflakes on your body
Many time in years
To drench your suit with red rosy stain
A chance to find a publicity for the flame
Now I'm screwed...that's because...

I just shot the lawyer
That blow could've been fatal
I just shot the lawyer
The sounds of the laughing quails
I just shot the lawyer
That blow could've been fatal
I just shot the lawyer
When all we see is a view of a quail

DKTOS, but I thought the James Bond/Cheney juxtaposition was hilarious. The lines were actually pretty funny, especially "I just shot the lawyer" .. "a controversy gaping inside" ... great stuff. This is one of my top contenders for SOTM, maybe Top Ten. 455

(FEB '06) DKTOS, but good job anyway.

(SOTM) Strangely poetic for one of the year's most goofy news stories.

(SOTM) The OS is one of my favorite Duran Duran songs, so you get points for that, but the pacing is a bit off in places and there are a few remnants of the OS left in as well...I noticed that on "Steroids Are Forever" last month also, it would aid you a lot if you came up with some more original lines. Good effort though.

"Hey Dick Nice Shot!"... "Hey Max Nice Song" Remember that old cartoon Doug when he pretended to be Quailman??? It's not on anymore... I wonder why Cheney!!!

(SOTM) Interesting how people rate parodies. Chris dings you a little for leaving in some of the OS, but I've always appreciated parodies that take parts of an OS and use them in a new context.

(SOTM) SOTM - There's no guarantee that it will still be there when you (whoever you are) read this, but I found the original song here:

(SOTM) I love TOS and this was a very good spoof of Cheney's 'mishap'. Too bad is isn't a longer song to work in more puns, slams, etc; varying the last chorus would have helped in that respect.
Stuart McArthur - March 14, 2006 - Report this comment
(SOTM) nice original angle on the Cheney thing, and suggestions of the days of Dan Quayle don't hurt either

(SOTM) poor cheney. ok parody

[SOTM] Had diffisculty singing parts of your parody to the OS, didn't find it too funny either 333

(SOTM) Um...did I miss something? The pacing was brilliant, but I'm a little lost on the content...

Not the best on this subject, IMO, but a fairly workmanlike parody

(SOTM) Pacing was off a bit for me, but quite an enjoyable effort. 444

SOTM - Hoo boy, another Cheney quail song. Call me biased but I never really liked the OS (and the movie sucked pretty bad). Not my favorite, but not a terrible effort either.

(SOTM) Another great Cheney parody

The topic's a bit dated for any great belly laughs, but the good thing is that I actually know what you're talking about in this parody, which is good, because on a lot of your parodies I'm lost.

(ABC4V)

I found it interesting that Cheney being the VP who shot a lawyer in a hunting accident that this song would be about quail which incidently is the name of a former VP. Maybe we could uses some "pototoes" to use for skeet practice. At least you could say that this incident was NHI since it involved a lawyer getting shot.

Q: What is worse that a bus load of lawyers going over a cliff?
A: The same bus with an empty seat.

Well done.

(ABC) As is often the case with topical parodies, this loses something 2 years after its original release. Now it reads as a fine piece of surreality as it stands.

(ABC) Now, I know I have seen this one before, of course I wasn't around back when it was released so it was likely when I was fishing around the SOTM history later that year to see what it was about. . .very interesting.

. . . I Shot the Sheriff, But I Did Not Shoot the Deputy" . . . This is parody is as weird as the VP would who pulled the trigger! This event only proves ' who' really runs the show here in the ~US~.

(ABC) see above - not hilarious, but quirky, and fits the OS very nicely Max
Matthias - July 12, 2008 - Report this comment
This loses a lot over time... 2 years ago this would have been a lot stronger parody than it does now, but I agree with what I said earlier too.
Rex - July 14, 2008 - Report this comment
(Artistry) Two years later this parody would be helped by a few lines that explain the circumstances, either in the parody or in the notes. Or a video :-).
bobpiecheese - July 22, 2008 - Report this comment
(Artistry) Wait, I've read this one before? Well, at least now I get it - but now the joke's kinda stale. And the second verse kinda confused me.
Syncronos - July 23, 2008 - Report this comment
Somehow, a high ranking gov't official shooting his friend in the face while hunting quail just NEVER gets old...the pacing's off a smidge, but it still made me laugh!

(Art) Hey, it's an Artistry song I've already read!! I don't get to see those often. . "See Above" :)
