The Lyrics

Bonjourno! Well, it's been only a few days, but it almost seems like a while since I've last sent a parody here. This is my 30th one so far. The OS is another little gem from Dschinghis Khan (Hey, why am I the one doing most of the Dschinghis Khan parodies here? I'm American, & Dschinghis Khan's practically unknown except for Moskau, but even that's pretty much confined to the Internet community as far as I know). This time, the song is about the city of Rome & the Roman Empire. Strangely enough, though Dschinghis Khan does disco, the original song is a mix of orchestral music, disco, & traditional Italian-style music. Like Moscow & Genghis Khan, this is pretty much a semi-English translation of the OS, with some parody lyrics to fit the timing & rhyming & whatnot. Anyways, enjoy the parody!
(Orchestral music opening)

Rome,
Older than a thousand years,
City of joy and of tears,
Looking towards the future and the past.

Rome,
Such a glorious city,
Grandest in all Italy,
Each & every stone was built to last.

(Tempo speeds up a bit, piano music now playing)

Set around a majestic throne of gold,
Or at least that's how the legend's been told.(1)
Romulus & Remus, the two brothers,(2)
Built a city that dwarfed all the others.

Roma (3), Roma,
Romulus struck his brother dead.(4)
Roma, Roma,
City of stone & lead.

Rome,
Often conquered in the wars.
Rome,
Hannibal stands yet evermore.
Rome,
Emperors & Gladiators.
That was Rome.

(music switches to disco)

Rome,
Chariot wheels turning.
Rome,
Nero left you burning.(5)
Yet you're still beautiful, Rome.

Rome,
Brutus hath killed Caesar.(6)
Rome,
Rubble mostly seized ya.
And you're still eternal, Rome.

(tempo slows down, back to orchestral music)

Rome,
Today you stand tall & proud,
And your tears fall from the clouds,
When you laugh, your song rings out loud.

Rome,
Your scenery I've enjoyed,
And your dream of celluloid
Is a mirror of your own soul, Rome.

Rome,
Looking towards the future and the past.
Rome,
Each & every stone was built to last.
Rome,
Many visitors here have a blast.
That is Rome.
Rome!
Rome!

(tempo speeds up, music is Italian-style)

Roma, Roma, Roma, Roma,
Such a beautiful city!
Roma, Roma, Roma, Roma,
Such a beautiful city!

Roma, Roma, Roma, Roma,
La la la la la la la.
Roma, Roma, Roma, Roma,
Such a beautiful city!

La la la la la la la,
La la la la la la la.
La la la la la la la,
La la la la la la la.

Roma, Roma, Roma, Roma,
La la la la la la la.
Roma, Roma, Roma, Roma,
Such a beautiful city!

(tempo slows down, back to orchestral music)

Rome,
In the streets is where people's love lies.
Rome,
Home to beggars, priests, the Pope, &flies.
Rome,
Memories of you shall never die.
All hail Rome!
Rome!
Rome!

(back to Italian-style music)

Roma, Roma, Roma, Roma,
Such a beautiful city!
Roma, Roma, Roma, Roma,
Such a beautiful city!

Roma, Roma, Roma, Roma,
La la la la la la la.
Roma, Roma, Roma, Roma,
Such a beautiful city!

Roma, Roma, Roma, Roma,
Such a beautiful city!
Roma, Roma, Roma, Roma,
Such a beautiful city!

Roma, Roma, Roma, Roma,
La la la la la la la.
Roma, Roma, Roma, Roma,
Such a beautiful city!

All hail Rome!
All hail Rome!
All hail Rome!
Hail Rome!
Cultural Notes:(1)-Or at least that's how I wrote it, seeing as how I needed lyrics to fit with the whole rhyming & timing thing.(2)-Romulus & Remus are the founders of Rome.(3)-Roma is the Italian name for Rome.(4)-Romulus killed Remus in a dispute over Romulus having a trench dug for his city's wall (they were having a competition over who could build the better city). When completed, Romulus named the city Rome for himself.(5)-Refers to the old legend that "Nero fiddled while Rome burned". However, the fiddle wasn't yet invented when Nero was around.(6)-Refers to Julius Caesar's assassination at the hands of Marcus Junius Brutus, after Caesar was declared dictator for life.NOTICE: If you're looking for Dschinghis Khan lyrics, go to http://www.dschinghis-khan.de/texte.htm

Well, last week on vacation, I paid a visit to Rome, and it was a fabulous city! My favorite part was visiting the coliseum. That being said, had I not enjoyed Rome, I would've issued another parody that criticized the city. But, as it is, this parody still stands. Also, good news everyone! I found a website with MP3s for every Dschinghis Khan song! Go to 81.26.155.206/music/Dschinghis_Khan/ if you're interested. Also, go to www.steppenwind.com/texte.htm if you want lyrics to Dschinghis Khan songs. They have lyrics for almost all the Dschinghis Khan songs, except for most of the English songs. (NOTE: I excluded adding the http part because it would recognize the links & forbid me from posting them. Just copy these links over everything in the link bar except for the http, colon, & double slash. Chucky, please don't arrest me! I'm an honest man!)
