The Lyrics

I got the idea for this while listening to Frankie Goes To Hollywood butcher 'Born to Run,' followed by Britney's "Satisfaction," and got to thinking: what better way could there be to ruin your career than getting a pop starlet to massacre one of your creations? This is the story of an againg rocker who needs to give his career a humane euthanization. For all those tired of fame, I present...
My voice is old, now, just getting older
These pop stars are bold, they're just getting bolder
Cover me, come on Britney, cover me
Well I'm looking for a singer who can wreck my songs and cover me

Promise me Britney, you won't find the meaning
Wail in the wrong key, strippin' while you're singing
Cover me, be a whore and cover me
Well I'm looking for a singer who can wreck my songs and cover me

Once I did reign, a music god
All the chicks my room were mobbing
Pick up the mic, they'll abhor
I don't want any love no more!

There are artists out there just tryin' to be new
You can't write songs, but my work you still can screw
Cover me, just give up and cover me
Well I'm looking for a singer who can wreck my songs and cover me
I'm looking for a singer who can wreck my songs and cover me

Once I did reign, a music god
All the chicks my room were mobbing
Pick up the mic, they'll abhor
I don't want any love no more!

The whole world is out there, I'm, who they adore
I'm old and spent, don't want to sing anymore
Cover me, end my pain and cover me
Well I'm looking for a singer who can wreck my songs and cover me
I'm looking for a singer who can wreck my songs and cover me

Having a serious musical malfunction, Charlie. The album I have this on is immaculate, the record player is busted. Take your word on the pacing. 5s.

How did the prom go?

Great parody, and a very clever idea! I don't know what's worse: No-talent pop stars doing covers...or geriatric has-beens trying to make come-backs! (maybe there's a reason rock stars die young....to spare us!) 555

555. I saw a list once of people who had covered Dylan's songs. It was huge, and many were artists ill-suited for the task. I bet he felt just what you are describing here. Very good!

Reminds me of...I think it was Bill Murray on SNL years ago...used to have a skit where he plays a lounge singer and does Finger-Popping "Hip" versions of some of the serious, earnest Protest Songs of that period...It was pretty rich stuff...5's ~ ~ ~ I'll echo alvin here...great concept.

Good job! (I think Rhino Records actually released a compilaton of Springsteen covers titled "Cover Me" a few years back).555

Thanks Red Ant, alvin, Rick C, Chuck A. Spear, Dee, Paul and Agri!

Red Ant, the prom went OK. It wasn't like my song, but it wasn't perfect. I had a near perfect night the following night, but that's a different story for a different time ;-)
