The Lyrics

HOFAH if the gender roles were reversed.
Where have all the good girls gone, and where are all their hearts?
Where's my streetwise Artemis with her sidekick Joan Of Arc?
Isn't there a noble maiden upon her fiery steed?
Late at night, I'm pacing the floor, and I'll tell you what I need.

I need a hero! I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night!
She's gotta be strong, she's gotta be fast, and she's gotta be fresh from the vine.
I need a hero! I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light!
She's gotta be sure, she's gotta be soon, and she's gotta be larger than life!
(Larger than life.)

Somewhere close to midnight in my wildest fantasies,
Somewhere just beyond my reach, there's someone coming to save me.
Racing on the thunder and a-rising with the heat,
Only the power of God himself can sweep her off her feet!

I need a hero!

Up where the mountains meet the heavens above, where the lightning splits the sea
I could swear there's someone somewhere watching out for me
Through the wind, the chill, and the rain, and also the storm and the flood.
I can feel her approach like a fire in my blood!
(Like a fire in my blood, like a fire in my blood, like a fire in my blood, like a fire in my blood, blood!)

I need a hero!

FUN FACT: I was initially going to make it "And where are all the broads?", but soon realized that it might be offensive to women, so I changed it to "And where are all their hearts?" to make it not (as) offensive.
