The Lyrics

Where has the Greek Drachma gone and
where's the Belgian Franc?
Guilder, Mark and Lira can no
Longer be changed at the bank
Closer integration for the former EEC
Hoping that will lead to more fiscal stability

They need the Euro,
They're signing up for the Euro
All these Euro-states
And it's gonna be strong and it's gonna be stable
And it's gotta mean low int'rest rates

They need the Euro,
They're signing up for the Euro for prosperity
It's gotta mean growth, and it's gotta mean boom
And it's gotta be worth 80p
Worth 80p

Eu- Eu- Euro, Eu- Eu- Euro, Eu- Eu- Euro
Ha! Ha!

Somewhere down in Greece, an economic fantasy
Someone said their debt was less
Than half of their GDP
Paying sod all taxes, and retiring when they will
They're gonna hope that Germany is gonna pick up the bill

They need the Euro,
They're holding out for the Euro-zone to clear their debts
They're gonna bail out, and it's gonna come good
And hoping this is bad as it gets

They need the Euro,
They're holding out for the Euro
Because they admit
If they're gonna leave, then they are gonna crash
And they're gonna be deep in the shit

They need the Euro, they're holding out for the Euro
'till the the end of time

Then when the bankers had a bit of a crash
From a run on property
Here's another debt mountain, and it's Italy
And Portugal, and Ireland and Spain
Maybe France won't make the cut
They said the Euro was forever, but...

They'll leave the Euro,
They're crashing out of the Euro and it's all their fault
Their economy's weak, and they're spending too much
And they're probably gonna default

They'll leave the Euro,
They're crashing out of the Euro now that seed is sown
And I'm probably sure that it's gonna be soon
So that they can devalue alone

They'll leave the Euro,
They're crashing out of the Euro as you guessed that they might
It's not gonna be long and it's gonna be fast
'Cause they're soon gonna give up the fight

They'll leave the Euro,
They're crashing out of the Euro for their financial health
Reducing the core, everybody will go
Leaving Germany all by itself

It's still the Euro, the Deutschmark will be Euro 'till the end of time

Nice work with the OS Phil. Very catchy and funny parody. Lots of great rhymes. Good to see you still writing.

the Greeks are not the only ones resisting & Occupying, we don't want to pay off our US debt, either, Sir ! " . . . Just print mo do . . . " that's they way we go !

This is what those ECB negotiators need to break the tension! Thorough and accurate. You're owed 555 euros (get it?) while they're worth more than zero.

Thanks, everyone :)

Glen - Oh, I'm still writing.. I think it's kind of an addiction, or an affliction. If I'm not posting parodies, it's because I'm writing original material instead :-)

AnonCougaress - the problem the Greeks have is that they can't "just print mo do", unless they leave the Euro, of course.

Barry - I hope it's not too accurate, for the sake of the world's economy: if the Eurozone does turn into, well, Germany, then we'll all have major problems.

Heheheheee! Thanks Phil - I'm so glad it's not just me writing about this stuff (I think you may have had some Greek people voting on this one!) Loved it, the drama of the OS was perfect for the subject matter. A well-deserved 555 - but not in euros, since that aint worth a lot anymore ;^)
