Song Parodies -> "(I Might Be) Wrong This Time"

Original Song Title:

"The Longest Time"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Billy Joel

Parody Song Title:

"(I Might Be) Wrong This Time"

Parody Written by:

Arwen

The Lyrics

Oh, oh, oh no
Might be wrong this time
Oh, oh, oh
Think I'm wrong this time

When we met, I told you the first night
"You can rest assured I'm always right"
And then I told you
A face tattoo would suit you
I must admit I might be wrong this time

Told my friend she should go out with Ron
Then he got caught making out with Don
Questions surround me
My gaydar was once so handy
I can't believe that I was wrong this time

Oh, oh, oh no
Sort of wrong this time
Oh, oh, oh
I was wrong this...

Once I thought I really knew it all
Way smarter than Bobby, Tim, or Saul
I thought Super Glue
Was best to thicken my stew
I can't breathe, and I might be wrong this time

Never thought my judgment was wrong
But my CPA, quit with a "So Long!"
Bought some things with my Mastercard
A house and a car
And a 'Big and Tall' men's store

Was it smart to put this red dress on?
At the bull fight, subbing for ol' Juan
Lessens my chances
Of dodging this bull's advances
I have a feeling I was wrong this time

Don't like this tran-qui-lizer dart
My aim was all wrong; it's lodged in my heart
Thought the Geo was a smokin' car
No Grand Prix wins so far
Guess I'm wrong just one time more

At the club, such happiness it brings
Dressed as an elf from "Lord of the Rings"
But I've only had
Dance re-quests from Gimli's dad
I can't help but wonder if I'm wrong this time

Oh, oh, oh no
Was I wrong this time?
Oh, oh, oh
May be wrong this time
Oh, oh, oh
Sadly wrong this time
(Fade out)

You? Wrong? Say It Aint So. Brings to mind "Never Can Say I'm Right" by an author whose name eludes me - loved the red dress verse, but duh! Don and Ron were clearly an obvious match - 555

Super glue? Tranquilliser darts? Your parodies are becoming quirkier every week, babe. Loved the OS, love this. 555

Yes, aside from the "not possible that Arwen is wrong" aspect, great song. The bullfight stanza was absolutely excellent!

This seems like a 'stream-of-consciousness' piece. Very witty, very off-the-wall. I was going to dock you for trying to rhyme 'told you' with 'suit you', but the bull stanza made up for it. Nice job, you sexy dwarf-magnet.

The Red Sox win the World Series. East Brunswick High wins a State football championship. White people in the South are mad at Georgie Bush. And Arwen admits she's not always right. That leaves three signs of the Apocalypse to go. And five points on the parody. Plus it's a great reworking of a Billy Joel song. And so it goes, and so it goes, Arwen is the one who knows. Alvin: Ask Mike Tyson, he seems to know.

Must admit DKOS, but many very funny lines in here...good write, in that respect..

superbly done 5's

Arwen getting carried on the Mastercard is believable; Arwen getting a limited number of dance requests is not. Very humorous and well put together, Arwen.

Stuart...I realize now that a lot of people saw the Ron and Don thing WAY before I did...but I was a bit distracted by my pressing Bull Fight fashion choice...in my defense. Thanks...

alvin...I can't tell you...I don't want to be responsible for another mistake...=) Thanks!

Kristof...=) Thanks, sweetie...

Jeff...I'm so glad that I've got you trained. Excellent comment...=) Thanks...

2nz...Dammit! While the bull fight stanza WAS outstanding...you're right. You should've docked me. Not that it's worth much now, but that was something that totally bugged me while I was writing, and I kept meaning to go back and change it...but I just forgot. What can I say...I was wrong...this time. Thanks anyway, darling...and I hope you're not revealing that you're actually a dwarf. I don't think I could stand that bombshell tonight...; )

Michael...thanks very much...I know how seriously you take Billy Joel, after all. And I'm L-ing OL over your comment...nice work. (not to mention getting ANOTHER great BJ song in my head...I might have to parody it now...)

AFW...thanks very much. =)

carol...I can only hope this is the REAL carol...because I don't thank imposters. Oh wait, yes I do...when they give me 5s, and call me superb. ; ) (I still hope you're the real thing, though) Thanks!

John...awww...what a sweet (and remarkably astute ; ) ) comment...thanks a bunch!

Missed this one yesterday...it's wonderful, just like all of your parodies!! Here's another perfect 5-5-5 vote for ya! :)
Cheese - September 08, 2005 - Report this comment
I could be wrong and i might be, but I dont think the pacing is 100% in some places. Good job otherwise. 4-5-5
Mouse - September 09, 2005 - Report this comment
It may be slightly off-paced, but I'm not going to ding a point just for that. If there were other pacing problems, then I'd think about giving it a 4 in that category. But I won't. Here's a 5-5-5.
Arwen - September 09, 2005 - Report this comment
Agri...thanks...=) It's good that, at least, I can learn from my mistakes...

Serafina...thank you so much! I always appreciate your loyal following of my work...=)

Cheese...maybe you're right. Oh wait, no you're not. I appreciate your honesty, and you're entitled to throwing down that 4...(I at least deserve it for the you/you thing 2nz brought up)...but it paces perfectly to me. I wouldn't have submitted it otherwise...it's kind of my thing. Pacing. But thanks...=)

Mouse...thanks very much...=)

I still can't believe I let you talk me into that damn face tatoo.
Arwen - November 21, 2005 - Report this comment
Ash...at the very least, give me some credit for admitting that I was wrong. And at a little more than the very least, consider all of the carnival and state fair work it's gotten you.
